Dolly has long been a dear friend of Foundations, holding a very special place in the history and heart of our organization. Back in 2020, we were honored to name her our Champion of Children — a small way of saying thank you for the work she did to change so many lives.

Dolly founded Dolly Parton's Imagination Library on one simple mission: that every child deserves a book of their own, and with it, room to dream, hope, and imagine. As a proud Imagination Library affiliate partner right here in Philadelphia, we've seen that vision come to life firsthand.

Our CEO, Rhonda H. Lauer, lights up whenever she talks about her friendship with Dolly — not the icon the world knew from the stage, but the kind, funny, warm person she truly was, every bit as genuine in person as you'd hope.

We're honored to celebrate Dolly Parton's legacy by ensuring her commitment to young readers continues to inspire generations to come. Her legacy is rooted in an extraordinary belief that the power of a book can change the trajectory of a child's life.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dolly Parton, a dear friend and tireless advocate for children’s literacy and education. Dolly was our 2020 Champion of Children, an honor that reflected just how deeply her work touched the families we serve.

Since 1995, Dolly and her book gifting program, Imagination Library, have mailed over 330,000,000 free, high-quality books to young children. Her mission was simple but powerful: every child should own books, regardless of their family’s income, and be excited about the magic that books can create.

As a proud affiliate partner of Imagination Library in Philadelphia, we saw firsthand the impact of her vision — putting free books into the hands of children and families, and instilling a lifelong love of reading.

What began in her home county in East Tennessee grew into a global movement — today, Imagination Library sends more than three million books each month to children around the world. Dolly’s generosity and passion for kids will leave a lasting legacy, and she will be deeply missed.

A Girls Inc. chapter once visited Timberland's headquarters and asked executives to talk openly about their failures. The girls left seeing not just a future where they could hold a job like that, but one where failure wouldn't stop them from keeping it.
That story, shared by Stephanie Florence, Interim Senior Manager, Girls Partnerships at Lean In Girls, comes from the Reframe Failure session. It's one of many practical, research-backed strategies covered in last week's live workshop for building girls' confidence and leadership skills.
