What does it mean to be one body in Messiah? First Corinthians 12 teaches that unity is real, but difference is real too. The body is not healthy because every member becomes identical, but because each member is rightly joined, honored, and placed under one Lord.

This Shalom Y’all teaching looks at Paul’s body language alongside Acts 15 to show how the earliest believers wrestled with Jewish and Gentile life together. Biblical unity does not erase distinction, excuse sin, or demand conformity. It calls us to shared life in Yeshua marked by humility, holiness, peace, and honor.

HONOR DIFFERENCES
How do we honor differences in the body of Messiah without turning every difference into a problem?

Acts 15 shows that the early believers had to learn how to live together with wisdom, patience, and reverence. They did not pretend every person had the same background. They did not force sameness. They worked toward faithfulness and peace.

What does that look like in the body of believers now?

The Council in Jerusalem in Acts 15 was not only about doctrine. It was about life together. The early leaders had to help a growing community walk in truth, peace, and holiness. The church still needs that kind of wisdom.

05/26/2026

Acts 15:19–20 shows that the early leaders of the faith cared about how Jewish and Gentile believers would live together in real community.

The council was not only answering a theology question. It was also protecting fellowship, worship, and shared life.

James did not place a heavy burden on Gentile believers. At the same time, he gave practical instructions that would help these new believers turn away from pagan life and live in a way that honored God and respected the community they were joining.

That still speaks to the church now.

The church should read Acts 15 and learn that grace does not remove the call to holiness. Freedom in Messiah does not mean living without care for other believers. And unity does not grow when people ignore the spiritual and cultural weight carried by the community around them.

Acts 15 teaches the church to welcome people with wisdom, teach them with patience, and build community with reverence. Faithful living is not only personal. It shapes the peace and health of the whole body.

New on the Netivyah blog: Unity Without Erasure — What Scripture Actually Builds. Explore how Scripture brings Jews and Gentiles into one body through peace while honoring distinct identities. Read the full essay by Elizabeth Shulam https://wix.to/VJLsGbZ

Scriptural unity never required the erasure of Jewish identity. In Messiah, Jews and Gentiles are brought into one body through peace, not through flattening what God has chosen to distinguish.
