In the early morning hours of January 30, 2026, Deputy Derrick Bonham with the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office was murdered in the line in the line of duty.
The preliminary investigation shows that Deputy Bonham responded to the area of a local hotel in Martin, Tennessee for a report of shots fired or heard. Deputy Bonham located a vehicle believed to be involved just down the road at a gas station and he made contact with the female occupant / suspect. The suspect then produced a handgun and fired two rounds striking Deputy Bonham causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then exited the vehicle and approached Deputy Bonham and fired one more round at him in an ex*****on style murder. Deputy Bonham died as a result of his injuries.
Deputy Bonham graduated from TLETA class 2016 and has served the citizens of Weakley County for just shy of two years. In that short time everyone that had the honor of knowing him has nothing but kind things to say about him.
Deputy Bonham leaves behind a loving wife and three young kids. Please keep WCSO and his family in your thoughts and prayers!

The TTOA is saddened to hear about the loss of Deputy Justin Mowery with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Mowery has served the citizens of Blount County since 2020 and was a member of the BCSO’s prestigious SWAT team since 2021.

BCSO’s SWAT team has played a major role in the TTOA since its infancy. They are genuinely some of the best dudes you’ll ever meet. Please keep Deputy Mowery’s family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers!

Well… it’s not Friday but I will argue that flash bangs can be posted everyday!

If you or your team isn’t using Blaze Defense Systems fire suppression systems then you are wrong! That’s right we said it. Bangs can cause a fire hazard so why not utilize a system than can be carried in an OC pouch?

Commander Scott Byrd

The TTOA and Law Enforcement as a whole is diminished by the loss of Commander Byrd. He was a true cops cop but most importantly he was a friend and mentor to anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Commander Byrd was a huge part of TTOA from helping start the association from its infancy to being the first membership director and much more. Commander Byrd was a wealth of knowledge and did everything in his power to raise the standard in law enforcement by helping the TTOA provide cops with the best training and resources.

Commander Byrd served the citizens of Nashville for 25 years where he had many roles. At the time of his passing Commander Byrd was assigned to the Emergency Services Division where he oversaw SWAT, Bomb Squad, Emergency Contingency Section, and Marine Operations.

We at TTOA ask that you keep Commander Byrd’s wife, young kids, and family in your thoughts and prays as they navigate this tragic time.

Make sure to stop by their booth! Best in the business when it comes to breaching!

The Humphreys County Sheriff's Office hosted an active shooter breaching training course presented by Jersey Tactical Corp. in coordination with the Tennessee Tactical Officers Association (TTOA.pro)

The course was provided to law enforcement in the region to better prepare School Resource Officers and Patrol Officers/Deputies with the tools and training they need to intervene during an active shooter situation. Frequently in those situations the shooters are barricaded inside locked structures and law enforcement struggles to get inside to stop the shooting.

These doors are Class II commercial grade required by fire code standards and very difficult to force open in an emergency. Jersey Tactical Corporation is a national leader in both manufacturing breaching tools and providing training. John Dapkins one of the owners of Jersey Tactical Corporation and a nationally recognized expert in breaching training, donated the class to the state’s tactical officer’s association as part of their mission to enhance training and tactical capabilities for law enforcement agencies statewide. Officers from around middle and west Tennessee were in attendance.

Jersey Tactical Corp. additionally gave away over $1,000 worth of breaching tools as a donation to one department. The Bolivar TN Police Department was the lucky winner in the drawing for the tools. Realizing that you can’t save anyone if you can’t get in Jersey Tactical and TTOA will continue to
provide advanced training across the state.

“All HCSO School Resource Officers with the Sheriff’s Office attended the training. This is a great training opportunity,” said Sheriff Chris Davis, “an opportunity of this caliber doesn’t come along often, and I feel it is of the utmost importance that all our SRO’s took advantage of this in their efforts in preparing for the day we pray never comes.”

We extend a big thank you to John Dapkins, Jersey Tactical Corp. and the Tennessee Tactical Officers Association, a 501(C) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to training Tennessee’s law enforcement.
