The openly gay Republican has backed some LGBTQ protections while voting for recent restrictions affecting transgender youth.

Assembly Bill 100: Novak voted yes on legislation restricting transgender girls’ participation on girls’ school sports teams. The proposal also restricted access to girls’ locker rooms. It passed the Assembly 51–43.

Assembly Bill 103: Novak voted yes on legislation requiring school-board policies governing changes to students’ names and pronouns, including parental approval requirements. It passed 50–43.

Assembly Bill 104: Novak voted yes on legislation prohibiting certain gender-affirming medical interventions for people younger than 18, with specified exceptions. It passed 50–43.

Wisconsin's 51st Assembly district includes the cities of Cuba City, Darlington, Dodgeville, Mineral Point, and Shullsburg, and the villages of Arena, Argyle, Avoca, Barneveld, Belmont, Benton, Blanchardville, Blue Mounds, Blue River, Cobb, Gratiot, Hazel Green, Highland, Hollandale, Linden, Livingston, Montfort, Mount Horeb, Muscoda, Rewey, Ridgeway, and South Wayne

Madison Museum of Contemporary Art Lecture Hall 227 State Street (in the Overture Center).

We’re presenting at the Wisconsin Book Festival this Sunday from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art

In a small Wisconsin town, a single evening opened the door to something powerful: truth spoken out loud.

Inspired by a June 2025 event in Mount Horeb, Brave Voices Rising gathers the stories shared that night—stories of identity, courage, and the longing to be seen and understood. As voices filled the room, they created a space not just for expression, but for connection.

These pages carry those voices forward—honest, vulnerable, and deeply human—reminding us that when we listen, we begin to understand. And when we understand, we create space for belonging.
