Day 4: Christ Is Our Peace

Scripture
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.” — John 14:27a (ESV)

Application
The world promises peace but cannot deliver it. Relationships fail, circumstances change, and possessions disappoint. True peace is found only in Jesus. When our hearts are restless, He remains our steady refuge.

Prayer
Jesus, thank You for being my peace. Help me look to You instead of searching for comfort in the things of this world. Amen.

Day 3: The Turning Point

Scripture
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.” — Matthew 7:13 (ESV)

Application
Psalm 120 represents a turning point. The psalmist has grown tired of the world’s lies and hostility. Repentance begins when we stop excusing sin and start pursuing God. Every day is an opportunity to leave the world’s path and walk the narrow road of discipleship.

Prayer
Father, reveal any areas where I have grown comfortable with sin or spiritual complacency. Give me a heart that gladly follows Your way. Amen.

Songs of Ascents: A Journey of Deliverance

Day 2: This World Is Not Our Home

Scripture
“For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.” — Hebrews 13:14 (ESV)

Application
The discomfort we feel with the brokenness of this world is not necessarily a bad thing. It reminds us that we were made for something greater. The Christian life is not about settling down in this world but traveling faithfully toward our true home with Christ.

Prayer
Lord, keep my heart from becoming too attached to this world. Help me live as a pilgrim whose hope is fixed on Your eternal kingdom. Amen.

Songs of Ascents: A Journey of Deliverance
Week 1 Devotional Guide — Psalm 120

Day 1: A Cry From Distress

Scripture
“In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. Deliver me, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.” — Psalm 120:1-2 (ESV)

Application
Every pilgrimage begins with a cry for help. The psalmist doesn’t pretend everything is fine. He honestly brings his distress before the Lord. God invites us to do the same. Whatever burden, fear, frustration, or disappointment you’re carrying today, bring it to Him. He hears His children.

Prayer
Father, thank You that I can call upon You in every trouble. Help me trust that You hear me and care for me. Draw me closer to You today. Amen.

Psalm 120 opens the “song book” appropriately with the song of a faithful pilgrim who is far from the temple among a pagan people. This isn’t a happy song, this is a psalm of lament, of honesty and reflection.

The psalm begins with “my distress” and ends in “war!” This Psalm, like the other “Songs of Ascents,” contains many of the essential aspects of Christian discipleship—providing a reminder of where we are going and how we can get there.

On this solemn Memorial Day, we honor the heroes who paid the ultimate price. Today we remember their sacrifice with gratitude and humility. Their love still protects what is behind them.
Thank you. We will never forget.

Day 5 — The Gospel Sustains Us Daily

Scripture:
Colossians 2:6–7
“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith…” (ESV)
The gospel is not only how we are saved—it is how we continue walking with Christ every day. We never outgrow our need for the gospel. The same grace that saves us also strengthens, comforts, convicts, and sustains us.
The Christian life is not about moving beyond the gospel, but going deeper into it.

Prompt:
Are you relying on your own strength or resting in God’s grace today?
Application:
Before facing today’s challenges, remind yourself that God’s grace is sufficient for every moment.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that the gospel is not just good news for salvation, but good news for everyday life. Strengthen me through Your grace today. Amen.

Day 4 — The Gospel Produces Fruit

Scripture:
Galatians 5:22–23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…” (ESV)
We are not saved by good works, but genuine salvation produces spiritual fruit. As we abide in Christ, the Holy Spirit grows love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control within us.
We do not “perform” the gospel—we live in light of it. The fruit of the Spirit is evidence that God is at work in us.

Prompt:
What kind of fruit is your life producing right now?
Application:
Choose one fruit of the Spirit to intentionally pursue today in your relationships and conversations.

Prayer:
Holy Spirit, continue Your work in me. Shape my life so that others see the character of Christ through me. Amen.
