​Our Auxiliary family at South Mountain American Legion Post 674 could not be prouder! Ashleigh returned home today after spending 10 days in Jos, Nigeria on a medical mission trip with IMO. During her trip, she helped with surgeries, taught life-saving CPR to local staff, and directly impacted and improved countless lives.
​A huge THANK YOU to everyone in our community who bought subs and sandwiches during our fundraisers to help support her journey to Africa—your support helped make this incredible mission possible!

American Legion National Scholarships

Children of Warriors National Presidents' Scholarship: One of the ways the ALA serves our country's veterans and their families. Given to high school seniors who are direct descendants of U.S. wartime veterans.

Spirit of Youth Scholarship for Junior Members: One of the ways the ALA gives to those who are Junior members. Given to current ALA Junior members who are high school seniors and who have been Junior members for the past three years.

Non-Traditional Student Scholarship: One of the ways the ALA helps those part of The American Legion Family, veterans, and veteran or active-duty military spouses pursue a college degree later in life or allow them to pick up where they left off when their studies were interrupted.

Member Loyalty Scholarship: One of the ways the ALA helps former American Legion Auxiliary Junior members who retain their membership into adulthood. Given to current college students.

Grades 3 to 12 - Essay Contest Available!!! The American Legion Auxiliary's Americanism Essay Contest is for students in grades 3 -12, including students with special needs, divided into six classes. One award in each class will be presented in each division Winners will receive $50 check, and a $50 donation in the student's name will be made to the Spirit of Youth Scholarship Fund.

Essay Title: "How can you be a beacon of light for our veterans?"

Please see the cover sheet information below. Submissions will not be judged without a completely filled out cover sheet. Judging Rubric attached as well. Essays must be submitted to the post no later than January 31, 2027. The essay shall be the work of only one individual. Use of AI in writing essays is not allowed. Essays will be checked for use of AI. Any essay determined to be 30% or more AI written will be disqualified.

Where are our young artists at? Do you have a grandchild that loves to draw? Here's an opportunity for them. Each year the ALA sponsors a Poppy Poster Contest for students in grades 2 - 12, including students with special needs. Grade levels are divided into seven classes. One award in each of the seven classes will be presented in each division. Winners will receive $50 and a $50 donation in the student's name will be made to the Children of Warriors National Presidents' Scholarship fund. National winners will be posted at www.ALAforVeterans.org after national convention. If you know of a child this would be great for, please have them complete the poster and return to our post no later than February 1, 2027. Cover page with required information attached to this post. Attention all Unit 674 Auxiliary Members... IF you paid your dues at Early Bird or recently PLEASE IGNORE THE BELOW MAILING! This mailing comes from National and is out of our control. If you paid your dues you are good! Again, the Auxiliary Unit has no control over these mailings. They are automatically sent out on September 15th. We apologize for any confusion. Thank you for your understanding.

Unfortunately due to lack of ticket sales we have decided to cancel the Naughty Bingo scheduled for October 10, 2026. All refunds will be made by the end of the weekend and will be available at the bar or will be refunded via Zeffy. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause anyone. Hopefully we can try this again next year.

The Auxiliary would like to thank everyone who donated goodies for our bake sale today. Along with everyone who stopped by and said hello at our stand. We couldn't have done today without your help! Our Legion Family pulled through for us today and we truly appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you also to the ladies and gentleman who donated their time to help at our stand today. Have a great rest of your weekend everyone!
