Williamsport Grange #1815

Williamsport Grange #1815 The Williamsport Grange is a non-profit, non-partisan fraternal organization, based in Ohio's Morrow County.

Founded in 1911, the Williamsport Grange is a non-profit, non-partisan fraternal organization, based in Ohio's Morrow County. It is subordinate to the Ohio State Grange and the National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry. The Grange is a family, community organization with its roots in agriculture. In 1867, the Grange was formed as a national organization with a local focus. Our members a

re given the opportunity to learn and grow to their full potential as citizens and leaders. The family is the base of the organization with full membership beginning at age 14. Women have been equal members since the inception of the Grange. The Junior Grange program -- for children ages 5 to 14 -- has helped the youngest members of the family learn about community values and citizenship for more than 100 years. The Grange Youth program develops the leadership skills of our young adults and young married couples. The foundation of the organization is the Community Grange, which can be found in rural, suburban and urban communities. Faith, hope, charity, and fidelity are the basic lessons of the Community Grange. The Grange has four levels: Community, County, State and National, ensuring that the membership’s voice is heard at the appropriate place. Our membership sets the direction and activities for their Community Grange in true grassroots fashion, and those decisions work their way up to the national level. Nonpartisan legislative advocacy, educational programs, service projects, and social interaction and networking are just a few of the ways local Granges serve their communities and members. Every year, Grange members give thousands of hours to volunteer in their communities and raise millions of dollars for important causes. Grangers attend public meetings, inform themselves of local, state and national issues, and speak for the rights of all Americans, especially those who work in agriculture, producing our food, fuel and fiber. Each November, members from across the country gather for the National Grange Annual Convention at which policies, adopted in community Granges, passed by State Granges and moved to the national delegate body, are debated. A true grassroots organization, those policies that pass at convention become the issues for which the National Grange advocates. The Grange has been instrumental in bringing about progressive changes and programs, including: rural mail delivery (RFD), rural electrification, cooperative extension services, 4-H, FFA and land grant universities. It was an early supporter of the women’s suffrage movement. Today, the Grange continues to be relevant in American life, with positions on wireless broadband networks, animal welfare, local/regional foods and community markets.

What a great turnout for Williamsport Grange President presentation on the railroads of Morrow County. Ohio State Grange Jr. Princess Riley Russell and Williamsport Grange member was there to greet individuals as they came in. Of course she mentions the.role of the Grange in breaking the railroads monopoly which was overcharging Farmers for items shipped. This was the second of three showings of the video. Thank you to the Capital Theater for hosting these events. If you missed the first two showings, get Thursday April 30th at 6 pm on your calendar. What a great way to celebrate Grange month.

The Grange was formed to unite and improve the economic and social position of our nation's farm population. At one time Morrow County had 31 Granges. The Williamsport Grange is the last active Grange in Morrow County, To preserve and honor our history while continuing to make an impact in the future, the Williamsport Grange is establishing a scholarship. Once we have amassed $10,000 we will be able to start awarding scholarships. We are very close. We need $1,750 more to reach our goal. Can you help?
