Ringgold County Cares would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped us complete our food packing event in the month of May. We were able to deliver 12,900 meals to the Neighborhood Center. We put together 100 relief boxes that contain 21 bags of food for families to use. Each bag has 6 servings and there are four different meals in each box, apple cinnamon oatmeal, tomato basil pasta, Mac and cheese and Spanish rice. Each food item is nutritionally fortified with all the protein and vitamins to meet USDA guidelines. We will be looking forward to doing this again soon (and hopefully without all the COVID restrictions).

Ringgold County Cares will be hosting a food packing event to benefit our local food bank. We will be making relief boxes that will be packaged and distributed through the Neighborhood Center in Mount Ayr for the elderly and families in need. We will be needing small groups of volunteers to help put together the meals. We will be practicing social distancing during this event. For this reason, we would ask all volunteers to bring your own face mask to wear while packing food and we will have gloves available. Volunteers will have to pass a health screening questionnaire and have their temperature checked before being allowed to package food. We will need about 4-5 volunteers to run a shift. Shifts will be by appointment only.

There will be 4 different types of meals offered in the relief boxes. We will have Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese Dinner, Instant Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal, Pasta with Italian Tomato Basil Sauce and Gluten Free Spanish Rice. All meals are vitamin enriched and nutritionally balanced that were designed by Outreach Program and Iowa State Food Science Program. Each relief box will contain a variety of meals that will make up about 126 meals per box. Our goal is to create 100 relief boxes or about 12,000 meals to help the citizens of Ringgold County. Our goal is to continue this type of domestic food packing service in the future.

Ringgold County Cares has purchased all the ingredients for this packing event. We are not asking for any donations at this time. What we are asking for is volunteers to help put the meals together. Since we can only have small groups of people packing at a time, we are looking to complete this first event by the end of May. Ringgold County Hospital employees have volunteered to package one line of meals for Ringgold County Cares. The other 3 meals will be put together at the United Baptist Presbyterian Church by appointment only.

If you or your group is interested in packaging meals please contact Ron Schafer at 641-414-1527 (call or text) or email: [email protected] or Joan Jackson at 641-344-7905.
