🗓️ The 2026 Mt. Angel Historical Society Calendar is here!

Each year, we put together a special calendar filled with vintage photos, fascinating stories, and pieces of our town’s rich history — and this year’s theme might be our favorite yet!

📖 The 2026 calendar highlights the Mt. Angel Parish churches that have served our community from 1881 to today — complete with rare photos, interesting facts, and even personal memories from those who witnessed the building of the current church.

✨ Fun fact: Between 1881 and 1912, four different buildings served as Mt. Angel’s parish church — and at one point, three were used on the same day for a special celebration!

📍Calendars are available now at the Mt. Angel Senior Center (195 E Charles Street) or by phone at 971-370-0057. We can even mail one to you for just $3 postage.

đź’° $13 for Society members | $15 for non-members

🤔 Did you ever wonder where Downs road and Meridian road got their names? Or which cleaning product was most popular (or at least most advertised) in Mt. Angel during the 1890s? We explored all this and more at the Mt. Angel Historical Society annual meeting last night. The stories and questions were all in the details of the many pictures we explored!

Did you miss it? Don’t miss out next year! Visit mtangelhistory.org or contact us at 971-370-0057 to submit a membership form and receive quarterly newsletters, keep informed of society activities and get your invitation to next years annual meeting!

Come on down to the Saalfeld House this Friday for the “next Friday” event and you’ll see (and hear) something new! Thanks to a generous donation from the Queen of Angels Monastery and especially Sister Dorothy Jean, the Mt. Angel Historical Society is now housing this beautiful organ used in the convent chapel. We owe a big thank you to the maintenance personnel at the convent, Zach Uselman and Kyle Beyer and his son for helping us move the organ and make it the newest addition to our growing collection!

This organ was manufactured in 1908 by the Estey Organ Company in Brattleboro, Vermont. During our research, we discovered the Estey Organ Museum and contacted them to learn more about the organ. They indicated that these organs are extremely well made and to go ahead and let people play it, so come on down this Friday September, 8 between 5:00 and 8:00 PM and play us a tune! 🎶

❓❓❓ Did you know….. 2023 marks Mount Angel's 130th anniversary!? The townspeople filed for incorporation in February 1893 and the first council meeting and election was held on April 3, 1893. The meeting was held at the Mt. Angel Post Office and the newly elected council members were sworn in by the postmaster as he was a notary public for the State of Oregon. The first action item? Order a seal for the city and "procure the seal as soon as possible". The document seen here are the minutes from that first council meeting.
