Another successful trip to Alaska. 🎣

We recently sent one of our veterans to Ketchikan to join our friends at Healing Towers Inc. for an unforgettable fishing trip built around mentorship, camaraderie, and getting veterans back outdoors.

Rockfish. Crab pots. Fly rods in a clear river. Surrounded by the wilderness of Alaska. A peaceful adventure that is hard to beat.

Thank you, Healing Towers for creating another incredible opportunity for a veteran to experience the adventure, camaraderie, and connection that can only be found out there.

There is something powerful about watching a veteran discover that their world didn’t get smaller because they were injured.

Sometimes they just have to experience it differently.

Whatever it takes.

Because the goal isn’t to make the adventure easier.

It’s to make the adventure possible. 🤿

A wheelchair doesn’t stop a hunter.
An amputation doesn’t stop a diver.

Adaptive outdoor experiences give combat veterans a way back to purpose, to nature, and to the camaraderie of people who understand both the visible and invisible wounds of service.

At NPLB, every program is free for veterans and their families. Our opportunities are open to all eras and branches of service, and we work to accommodate a wide range of injuries and disabilities.

Whether that means a tracked wheelchair in the woods or adaptive gear underwater, the point is simple:

Your injury doesn’t have to keep you from getting outside.

The outdoors is still waiting for you.

There are some people and businesses who don’t just support our mission… they become part of it. 🇺🇸

We are incredibly grateful for the support from Charlie & Rebecca Howard and the entire team at Glacier Jetski Adventures 🙌🏼

Every year we bring a group of veterans to Alaska, and every year Charlie, Rebecca, and their crew go above and beyond to make this experience possible. They are true friends of the military community and some of the most generous people we’ve ever had the privilege of working with.

This year, they were fully booked the entire time we were in Alaska. Instead of saying no, they went above and beyond and ran a special after-hours tour just for our group… the first time they’ve ever done it. We had the entire stretch of Prince William Sound and Blackstone Bay pretty much to ourselves.

60 miles of glacial water. Speeds up to 50 mph. Weaving through ice. Holding 5,000-year-old glacier ice in our hands. Waterfalls thundering down black rock. And some of the most jaw-dropping scenery on the planet.

Charlie, Rebecca, and the entire Glacier Jetski Adventures family, thank you for the unforgettable experience and for the way you continually show up for our veterans. Your generosity means more than you know. You are the real deal, and we can’t wait to see you again next year!

If you’re ever in Whittier, Alaska and want an incredible, hands-on glacier experience, these are your people.

There’s more than one way to overcome an obstacle.

For the veterans we serve, the outdoors can be a place to challenge limits, build confidence, reconnect with others, and discover that what once seemed impossible can still be possible.

Sometimes, that looks like standing on a mountain.
Sometimes, it looks like standing on the tee box. ⛳️🇺🇸

You can help us create more moments like this by joining us for one of our upcoming fundraising golf tournaments:

📍 Montana: August 22 — Pryor Creek Golf Club. Huntley, MT 59037
📍 Maryland: September 8 — Turf Valley Resort. Ellicott City, MD 21042

Every round played, sponsorship, and dollar raised helps us continue creating opportunities for veterans to heal through adventure.

Because the mission continues long after service ends.

Today, we observe National Purple Heart Day.

The Purple Heart is one of our nation’s oldest and most revered military decorations. It is awarded to those who were wounded or killed in combat.

It is not a medal that anyone hopes to receive. It is bestowed only through sacrifice and bloodshed, serving as a permanent reminder of the cost of war.

At NPLB Outdoors, we are privileged to walk alongside many Purple Heart recipients. Through the healing power of the outdoors, we continue to honor their service, sacrifice, and resilience.

Today, we remember. We honor. We do not forget.

Some mountains are more than just mountains.

Gold Star Peak stands as a place of remembrance. A place where veterans and Gold Star families can honor the heroes they carry with them every single day.

We're incredibly grateful for our partnership with Gold Star Peak, Inc. and for Kirk Alkire's commitment to making sure our nation's fallen heroes are never forgotten. What he's created is more than a hike. It's an experience that brings people together to pay tribute to the brothers and sisters in arms, sons and daughters, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, and friends who never made it home.

The climb itself is no easy feat. The mountain demands everything you've got. It’s steep. It’s exhausting. It pushes you physically and mentally. There are moments when your legs are burning, your body is tired, and you wonder how much farther you can go. But every step reminds you why you’re there.

Reaching the summit to honor those who gave everything makes every difficult step worth it.

During our recent hike, SSG Helaina Lake Salvato (Ret.) said something I'll never forget:

"I'm glad it's this difficult, because if it was an easier hike, everyone would do it."

She's right.

Not everyone can make this climb. But those who do understand that the challenge is what makes the moment so meaningful. Every step reminds you that freedom came at a cost. By the time you reach the summit, honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice feels even more meaningful because you had to work hard with every step to get there.

On this climb, we honored:
• 1LT Ryan D. Rawl | KIA 20 June 2012 | Army OEF
• SFC Matthew B. Thomas | KIA 20 June 2012 | Army OEF
• SGT John D. Meador II | KIA 20 June 2012 | Army OEF
• SSgt Daniel L. Hansen | KIA 14 Feb. 2009 | USMC OEF
• SSG John D. Linde | KIA 5 Nov. 2007 | Army OIF
• MSG Nicole Amor | KIA 1 March 2026 | Army OEFU
• SSG Joseph Granville | 20 June 2012 | Army OIF

These names represent lives that mattered and sacrifices that will never be forgotten.

Thank you, Kirk, for your friendship, your heart, and for creating a place where so many veterans and Gold Star families can honor the memories of their fallen heroes.

We will never forget them.
