In the early morning hours of August 2, 2026, our community experienced record-breaking flooding that caused widespread damage throughout the area. Several local businesses suffered devastating losses, with many losing everything.

The City’s maintenance shop was among the hardest-hit locations. Multiple city vehicles were flooded and have been deemed a total loss. Additionally, one of our reserve fire engines, which is housed at the city shop, sustained flood damage. At this time, the full extent of that damage is still being evaluated.

Throughout this event, our department responded to numerous storm-related emergencies, including water rescues, downed trees, and flooded roadways. In the days following the flood, our personnel continued serving the community by assisting with cleanup efforts, including washing mud and debris from roadways and the parking lots of local businesses.

We remain committed to supporting our community throughout the recovery process and will continue working to ensure the resources and assistance needed are available as we rebuild—stronger than before.

Please keep everyone affected by this disaster in your thoughts and prayers. While the floodwaters have receded, the impact of this event will be felt throughout our community for many months to come.

🚒 The IAFF's TAIR Division recently partnered with Terrace Professional Firefighters Local 2685 to study how the department's reliance on off-duty fire fighters affects emergency response.

The results are clear: relying on off-duty to respond from home causes critical delays when seconds matter most.

Two cannot safely fight a structure fire alone. That’s why international standards call for at least four fire fighters on every engine company – and why the IAFF is fighting for across North America.
