At All-Stars' October coalition meeting Tuesday, members edited our ma*****na toolkit! Surry County Office of Substance Abuse Recovery also went over the Red Ribbon Week schedule, to prepare for fun activities and presentations in schools throughout Surry County later in the month.

The ma*****na toolkit will be distributed free to the community upon completion. It will be an informative document, with information about the harms associated with ma*****na use, common products youth may come into contact with, as well as conversation tips and resources for parents!

Anyone with interest in substance use prevention can join the coalition! Meetings are second Tuesdays of the month at Children's Center of Northwest North Carolina in Dobson at 9am. To join us at our next meeting, email [email protected]. Breakfast is provided by Surry/Stokes Friends of Youth, Inc. Come join us!

All-Stars at Surry County Health and Nutrition Center's first annual Fall Into Good Health last Thursday evening! The free family event was a hit with community members; with SCHNC providing many games, pumpkin carving, healthy treat crafts and more!
All-Stars members from SCHNC, ICGH, Partners Health Management, Insight Human Services Prevention - Surry County, Chatham Nursing and Rehab, Surry/Stokes Friends of Youth, Inc. and Children's Center of Northwest North Carolina gave away candy, toys, prevention information and resources for an estimated 400 people who attended at the Dobson Farmer's Market.

East Surry High School ninth grade health classes completed Resist the Influence this week!

The four day youth substance use prevention series, presented by All-Stars DFC coordinator Paula Sheets, covered the topics of Mental Health, Underage Drinking, Ma*****na and Polysubstance Use with 67 youth.

Students were educated on the facts surrounding the different substances, to make informed decisions. They practiced refusal skills in groups, and learned coping skills to stay safe and sober!

They also received certificates of completion from the Surry County Office of Substance Abuse Recovery and tee shirts provided by Safe Sober by Daggett Shuler.

Monday Evening's Overdose Awareness Event hosted by Birches Foundation.
Attendees shared an evening of remembrance and support from one another, over a delicious dinner provided by Chatham Nursing and Rehab. The event ended with a candlelight reading of the names of community members lost to overdose in Surry and Stokes Counties.

Monday's Overdose Awareness event at Dobson Square Park.
It was a hot afternoon, but a great time making connections and discussing local issues as All-Stars and friends! Thanks to All-Star Kaitlyn from ICGH for organizing, Rhiannon for volunteering her time to set up info from multiple sources (Breaking Chains, Building Bridges Community Forum), and Krystal from AmeriHealth Caritas North Carolina for traveling so far to join us.
