We’re always saying we need volunteers, but what do volunteers do? We’ve put together some lists of potential jobs that volunteers could do for you to figure out!

If you are even slightly interested in any of these, please send us a message on here, give us a call at 304-845-1411 send an email to [email protected].

Let’s take a quick look at what they all are.

Any member of the historical society could have the opportunity to serve on the board of directors. Get your name on the short list of who the nominating committee considers when time comes to elect new members.

The fundraising committee is one of the most important tasks within the society. Help explore and develop different ways to raise much needed funding for the historical society.

What is a historical society without programming? Joining the programming committee will allow you to help plan membership meetings, round up special speakers, and come up with new types of events we can hold!

If you want more of a hands on approach to history, consider becoming an archival work volunteer. Help us care for, catalog, and manage our artifacts.

If you love telling stories, you’d love being a volunteer tour guide! Be trained on giving tours at the Cockayne Farmstead, the Bloyd House, or both! On occasion, we may even need tour guides for a walking tour of the city of Moundsville!

We’ve got years worth of historical society records that we need to digitize! We would absolutely love your help. It’s a very simple but extremely helpful task that needs to be done.

If you like working outside, we need volunteer gardeners to help maintain our outside areas by mowing, weeding, and planting to make us look our best!

The Cockayne Farmstead Farmers Market starts this week and we would love to have some more volunteers to help us man our table, set up, and tear down.

Throughout the year, we put on several events at the Cockayne Farmstead and are very excited to start doing more at the Bloyd House. If you just want to help during the excitement of special events, we could always use more hands!

Today at the Bloyd House, we’re bringing some of the bigger trees down! When we bought the house, the first thing we did was start cutting down some of the smaller trees that were growing a little too close to the building.

While the two large maples out front were a huge concern. The one was completely hollow on the inside and the other one had already had a brand fall off of it. We determined it would be better to get professionals to take those ones down, as well as a large tree on the edge of the property that is right up against the police department and a little too close to some power lines.

Tomorrow they come and grind down the stumps of the ones they cut down today as well as the ones we cut down months ago!

A huge thank you to MCHS member Mona Hall for buying us a brand new lawnmower!

Join us on Monday, May 11th, at the Bloyd House located at 600 Tomlinson Avenue at 6:00! We will be joined by Roseanna Dakan Keller, co-author of the Marshall County Patriots and Heroes book series. Roseanna, through the years, has talked to countless veterans helping document their stories to make sure they are never forgotten. She's coming to tell us the stories of the patriots and heroes whose stories were almost lost to history.

This meeting will be open to members and members of the public. Light refreshments will be served and updates on what we're doing with the society will also be shared!
