I received the following email. Please contact Daryl at the number listed to give him your stories! Let's remember our Veterans!

Good morning Ms. Hazle,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am working on a Memorial Day story centered on the 106 white crosses installed at American Legion Field in Moulton, each representing a Lawrence County veteran who died in service.

The angle I am pursuing is personal, as I want to find a family member connected to one of those 106 names and tell the story of sacrifice and remembrance from their perspective, capturing a unique human element.

I came across Lawrence County Archives listed under the Quicklinks section on the American Legion Post 25 website, which led me to believe your office has a working relationship with the Post. With that in mind, I am hoping you might be able to point me toward someone who was directly involved in the placement of the crosses -- whether that is a Post 25 member, a volunteer, or an organizer -- who could also help connect me with a family.

Any help you can offer would go a long way in making sure this story is told the right way.

Thanks for your time!

Best,
Daryl

We did this video to show how easy it is to clean tombstones the correct way. Please watch all five videos.

Exciting news everyone! The microfilm digitization project begins this week! The Archives will be closed while this takes place because the company doing the work does it on site which means they will have their equipment spread out to work. I anticipate only being closed part of today, and possibly Wednesday morning, but I will keep you updated.

Still no A/C. The compressor had to be ordered. Until that's done, I can't open. Let me explain why.

Without A/C to pull the humidity and airborne particles, I risk damage to the collection. Keeping the doors closed as much as possible is my best option right now. I realize it's not terribly humid outside right now, but there is still dampness and a ton of pollen in the air. But hopefully it will be fixed this week. I'm still at work, so call or email for help!

Don't forget this Saturday is the Moulton Walking Tour. The tour starts at 10a.m. and will begin at the Archives. From there, you will travel south on Main St. and east on Walnut. There you will tour the law offices of Hood Mullican which was fomerly the home of Ernest Kumpe. Then on to the Delashaw house (now owned by the Moulton Baptist Church), and the O.L. Judy house. The special treat comes last. Everyone is then invited to the Almon House on Morgan Street. This beautiful home of Robert and Julia Almon is now owned by Connie McLemore. With his permission and invaluable aid, the house is now listed on the Alabama State Register of Historic Homes. You will be allowed inside this home for a personal tour! Come out and view the history of Moulton and the efforts being made to preserve these historic landmarks!

The Archives will be closed to the public until the A/C can be fixed. Right now, it is 76 degrees inside, and it's unbearable! We are waiting until a lift can be arranged so the repairmen can get on the roof. Sorry for the inconvenience.
