In response to tonight's tornado, the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin is partnering with United Way of Marathon County to support those impacted.

Trooper Trevor Casper was shot and killed in Fond du Lac while attempting to apprehend a bank robbery and murder suspect at approximately 5:30 pm.

Never Forget: Fond du Lac Police Officer Craig A. Birkholz (End of Watch: March 20, 2011)

The spirit of Officer Craig A. Birkholz is and will always be strong with the FDLPD Family. We will never forget!

On the morning hours of Sunday, March 20, 2011 Officer Craig Birkholz laid down his life as he rushed to the aid of his fellow Officers. Officer Birkholz knew that Officers were being shot at and at least one Officer was down. Officer Birkholz responded because he had taken an oath to serve and protect our community.

Officer Birkholz knew that he was rushing into a very dangerous situation, but he responded anyway. As Officer Birkholz arrived the suspect opened fire from the second floor of a home striking Officer Birkholz.

Officer Birkholz had served with the Fond du Lac Police Department for two years and had previously served combat tours of duty with the United States Army in Iraq and Afghanistan where he obtained the rank of Sergeant.
