Well, we successfully beat the heat! Unfortunately, the universe took that as a challenge and sent us a blanket of poor air quality instead.
Due to the current air quality index, all MASA games scheduled for today (Wednesday, July 15) and tomorrow (Thursday, July 16) are canceled.

We promise we are doing our absolute best to get the kids out playing at Edgewood, but the elements are testing us this week!

What’s next for makeup games?
We are actively looking into potential makeup dates so we don't lose these games. However, putting a puzzle like this together is a bit of a balancing act:
• Field Schedules: We have to work around pre-scheduled field use conflicts to make sure we actually have open grass to play on.
• We Need Help: Getting extra games on the calendar means we are going to need some extra hands to run things smoothly. When we get these makeup dates locked in, we will need volunteers to step up for:
◦ Concessions
◦ Field setup and take down
◦ Referees
◦ Line painting

☀️🥵☀️ Weather Protocols☀️🥵☀️
With high temperatures forecast for this week, we want to share how we will be managing youth soccer games to ensure everyone stays safe. Player safety is of the utmost importance when making decisions regarding weather and heat conditions.

To ensure we are following best practices, we are aligning our protocols with US Soccer’s official recommendations for Category 2. You can review the full details in the US Soccer Heat Guidelines PDF.

Here is what you need to know for the upcoming week:

Daily Game Status Updates: We will monitor the conditions closely and will make an official call by 4:00 PM each day regarding whether games will proceed or need to be canceled.

Mandatory Hydration Breaks: If games continue at Edgewood Park this week, we will implement mandatory 15-minute hydration breaks during matches, as highlighted in the US Soccer guidelines. Please ensure your players bring plenty of water to every game.

Heat Exhaustion Awareness: We ask all coaches, parents, and players to be on the lookout for early symptoms of heat exhaustion, which can include heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, headache, and fatigue.

First Aid Support: As a precaution, we will have ice packs available at the concessions stand for emergencies only.
