Clearwater Snake Trout Unlimited Chapter 935 The chapter will consist of Trout Unlimited members from Washington and Idaho. We will work to conserve, protect and restore the Lower Snake River Region.

A new chapter of Trout Unlimited is forming in the greater Lewiston-Clarkston-Moscow-Pullman Region. It will bring TU's mission to conserve, protect and restore North America's coldwater fisheries and their watersheds to the Lower Snake River Region. By the next generation, Trout Unlimited will ensure that robust populations of native and wild coldwater fish once again thrive within their North Am

erican range, so that our children can enjoy healthy fisheries in their home waters. Our new chapter could help to substantially enhance conditions for trout and salmon in the lower Snake, Salmon, Clearwater, Grande Ronde, Tucannon, Palouse, Lochsa and Selway rivers. Our new chapter could help shape the work of federal and Washington and Idaho state agencies toward this region realizing Trout Unlimited's vision of ensuring robust populations of native and wild coldwater fish thriving again in their North American range for our children.

Clearwater/Snake River Chapter Promotional Table at 2026 Clearwater Spey Gathering

The 2026 Clearwater Spey Gathering will be held at the Orofino City Park on Saturday, September 26, 2026, and the Chapter will have an attended table at the event. Please check in to see what we have and to say hello to one of the Chapter members.

More Fish Habitat Field Day Opportunities--August 8 and 29/30

A fish habitat restoration and improvement project is currently being performed on the East Fork of the Potlatch River (and its tributary Bob's Creek), near Bovill, Idaho. Anne Connor of the Clearwater County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) planned and is overseeing the construction of Beaver Dam Analogs (BDAs) and Post-Assisted Log Structures (PALS) in the creeks, which flow through state land. The East Fork work should improve habitat of Snake River steelhead trout.

Although the project is fully funded, Ms. Connor particularly welcomes the participation of volunteers on August 8. The Clearwater/Snake Rivers Chapter is also cooperating with organization of a field day on August 29 or 30 (yet to be finalized). Any folks participating would need waders and the willingness to get wet and sweaty. Current Fish Habitat Field Day Opportunity

A fish habitat restoration and improvement project is currently being performed on a tributary of Lolo Creek on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, near Weippe, Idaho. The project is the construction of Beaver Dam Analogs (BDAs) and Post-Assisted Log Structures (PALS) in Musselshell Creek, and is an effort led by Trout Unlimited’s Idaho Restoration Director, Aaron Penvose, in cooperation with the Nez Perce Tribe and the U.S. Forest Service.

Although the project is fully funded and is being constructed by a contractor, the potential for volunteers who would like a field day exists if about a half-dozen folks associated with the Clearwater/Snake Rivers Chapter are interested. Any folks participating would need waders and the willingness to get wet and sweaty. So, If you would like to participate this Saturday or Sunday (August 1 or 2), please get in touch with me by the end of Wednesday, July 29 at [email protected].

Public Lands Opinion Survey

Since becoming Congressman for the 1st Congressional District of Idaho, Representative Russ Fulcher’s opinions on public lands ownership and management have evolved. Last year, after supporting a proposal to sell public land in Nevada and Utah, a proposal that was later pulled from consideration, later in the year he clarified his position by saying he supports more local involvement in federal lands management, not selling or transferring ownership to the state.

The Congressman is now following up on those statements with a public lands management survey on his website. Rep. Fulcher is inviting all Idahoans to weigh in on federal lands management.

If you're one of his constituents, please consider taking a few minutes to fill out his survey in a manner that demonstrates your interest in and support for Federal land management that promotes quality salmonid habitat, including clean water and sustainable forest practices.

Please plan to join the Chapter in cleaning up trash from along our section of U.S. Highway 12 on Saturday, September 26, 2026. This section parallels the Lochsa River for 2 miles starting at Mile Marker 158, near the Wendover Campground and few miles downstream from the Lochsa Lodge in Powell, Idaho.

We'll likely have a lunch meeting at the Lodge following the clean-up and we will be looking to coordinate transportation to the site, as it is quite a ways up there.

We'll have further information as the date approaches, but feel free to contact me for more info anytime.
