Inside the Vandals
The Vandals women’s soccer team (3-4-5) wraps up a three game road trip in Sacramento on Thursday, Oct. 2 with a match against the Sacramento State Hornets (5-6-1).
The two teams first met back in 2001, and the all time series is very tight, with the Vandals holding a 8-7-2 advantage. Last season the Vandals played the Hornets twice, winning 2-0 in Moscow during the regular season, and drawing 0-0 in the Big Sky Tournament. Sacramento State advanced 7-6 on penalty kicks.
Idaho is coming off a 3-1 defeat in Utah against Weber State.
Vandal goalkeeper Paula Flores continued her strong play. She made eight total saves against Weber State, seven in the second half.
Although outshot 21-7, the Vandals were able to convert from a corner kick, with Sara Rodgers grabbing her second goal of the season.
The Hornets are coming off a 1-1 draw against Northern Arizona. They are coached by Randy Dedini, and are led by midfielder Tea Reyes, forward Lexi Schroeder, and defender Jaety Mandaquit.
Vandal team leaders Annika Farley, Calli Chiarelli, Georgia Whitehead, Hallie Prinos-Grumbach and the rest of the squad will look to get back to winning ways before their two game homestand.
Thursday's match kicks off at 3 p.m. PT at Hornet Field in Sacramento.
