**NEW REPORT OUT. PLEASE SHARE!**
1.2 million metric tons. That's how much Co2 could be emitted through logging, roadbuilding, grazing, and more under the most industry-heavy forest plan alternative. That's the equivalent of 250,000 new passenger vehicles on the road.
That's just one finding from a new report from Dr. John Talberth of the Center for Sustainable Economy.
This report analyzed the different alternatives of the forest plan, specifically asking how much greenhouse gas emissions they would produce, and how that would affect the climate.
Logging, far above wildfire, is the #1 source of carbon pollution on our national forests.
Greenhouse gas emissions increase Earth's average global temperature, leading to increases in heat waves, droughts, water shortages, wildfires, landslides, floods and more.
The U.S. Forest Service is required to analyze forest plans for their impact on the climate. Unfortunately, the Nez Perce-Clearwater Nat'l forest has so far sidestepped the issue, probably because a "climate-smart" plan would end logging entirely.
