227 pounds of organic produce was harvested this week and taken to first Wednesday Evening Food Pantry! That brings our total so far to 568 pounds with much more to come! Small but mighty, this precious space behind our library is making such an impact !

Some early morning pea picking.

Snap peas that grow big but are still a bit flat taste "grassy" (blue arrow in pic). If you wait until the pod plumps and has "shoulders" (red arrow in pic), the pea pod tastes sweet. When the pod gets very plump and the skin looks dry or leathery, the skin can taste bitter. Those are the ones to pop open to use the peas inside.
We pick the pods with shoulders. You can feed more people with perfect pods than with individual peas.
