Scott County Sports Hall of Fame

Scott County Sports Hall of Fame Scott County Sports Hall of Fame seeks to recognize individuals who have been part of building a strong sports tradition in Scott County, Mississippi.

Eligible: Native Scott Countians who have attained success outside the county or state or natives of other counties or states who have chosen to reside, compete or be involved in Scott County athletics for at least two seasons at the high school level

Eligible: Any person out of school for minimum 2 years or retired from athletics for a minimum of 5 years and/or over age 50. * The waiting period

is waived for nominees who are deceased. If nominated primarily as a coach, the nominee must have at least five seasons of paid coaching experience with a verifiable career coaching record that includes more wins than losses. Eligible: Individuals who have not competed on the field, but who have made valuable contributions to athletics. This would include, but not limited to, officials, journalists, owners, athletic directors, association directors, sports information directors, trainers, physicians and cheerleaders. We acknowledge that even with detailed guidelines, there may be deserving individuals who do not fall within the existing eligibility guidelines. A person proposed in this situation could be considered in the nominating pool if all members of the selection committee are in attendance and approve the exception. If nominated as an athlete/participant, the individual must have received the recognition from a reputable evaluative body for their participation including, but not limited to: media, professional association and corporate recognition. This could include wire service All-Conference and All-American honors, Clarion-Ledger All-State designation. This also includes coaches All-District honors and the like. Individual nominees will be considered automatically eligible if they have been members of a generally accepted All-American first teams, All-Pro or All-Star teams, or won a medal as a contributing member of an Olympic team or if they have set acknowledged world and/or American records; or if they have won major post-season awards including but not limited to the following: World Championships, Heisman Trophy, Wooden Award, Butkus Award, Wade Trophy, Naismith Award, Cy Young Award, Golden Spikes Award and the like.

A new feature of the HOF was introduced this year. The first class of the Sid Salter Sports Contributor Award was among the 14 inductees.
The inductees covered under this banner include Sid Salter, Freddie Bagley and Jackie Calhoun ("The Bag and Jack Show"), and Chris Allen Baker.

Scott Engle was our keynote speaker.
He is in full-time ministry with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as an Area Director serving East Central Mississippi.
His area of responsibility includes five counties, 18 high schools, hundreds of coaches, and thousands of student-athletes. He also currently serves on the coaching staff at East Central Community College football as Character Coach and Team Chaplain.

We have a new class of inductees installed!!
We are proud to announce the completed induction of 14 new members to the Scott County Sports Hall of Fame bringing our overall total to 133 members.
Our 12th annual induction ceremony was held April 25 at the Livingston Performing Arts Center within Roosevelt State Park in Morton.
We also introduced the Sid Salter Sports Contributor Award with three of the inductees coming in under this award.
During the ceremony, we recognized the Forest High School 1969 football team and the Morton High School 2026 boys basketball team.
We also held a moment of silence in memory of two of our members who recently passed away.
