Families who have a child with a disability have a very strong sense of purpose, love, and commitment. This motivates them to ensure that their child’s needs are met: from advocacy to personal care to medical services that far exceed those of other children. Most families reach a POINT in their LIFE and the LIFE of their child when they realize that they cannot continue to meet all of their needs.

These families go through a great deal of soul searching to come to the POINT in which they are ready to request services for the person in their LIFE with a disability. All people age and have needs that change. At new POINTS in their LIFE, they need different services. In order to meet these needs, we have multiple facilities and POINTS of service – from small group homes in the community to larger facilities with continuous nursing care. We believe that we are called to serve others and POINT to God and not to self. We believe that honoring each LIFE, regardless of ability or skills, is honoring God’s teachings about LIFE and brings Him glory.

A HUGE thank you to Evan and Rocky at Bike Peoria Co-Op for fixing one of our Duet Wheelchair bikes last week! This repair could have cost so much more, but the mission of the Co-Op is to help bike owners learn about the bike repair process from volunteers who make this non-profit community bike workspace possible. For just $5 and a lesson on how to properly adjust the shifting on a an internally geared Shimano Nexus 8 speed hub, our OT/PT department has been able to bring back regular Duet Bike rides for the residents! We had some AMAZING volunteers come out this week and set up a petting zoo experience for our residents. Almost all of our residents came to see and pet the animals, and they also got to see and reconnect with friends from our different LifePoints homes! The weather was great, the animals were a hit, and the volunteers were wonderful - thank you for coming up with such a fun event for our friends!
