At Midwest Food Bank, we believe no one should have to choose between food and other basic needs. For over 20 years, we’ve been working to end hunger by providing nutritious food to individuals and families facing food insecurity. With the help of our community—volunteers, donors, and partners—we distribute millions of meals each year through local food pantries, schools, and community programs. T

Does a date on a package always mean it’s time to throw it away? Not necessarily. 🥫

According to food experts, these six foods may still be safe past their printed date when properly stored:
🥫 Canned goods
🍝 Dry pasta
❄️ Frozen foods
🥬 Fermented foods, like kimchi and miso
🍚 Rice
🥨 Unopened packaged snacks and cereals

Understanding food date labels can help us make informed choices and reduce unnecessary food waste. Always check for signs of spoilage and follow proper food safety practices.

📦These boxes, filled with donated, shelf stable food, helps to provide 20+ meals per box and are packed by volunteers from all around the area that come together to give back! 🫱🏽‍🫲🏾
