Happy National Sheet Metal Day!
Local Union 1's roots run deep. In 1887, Peoria's Robert Kellerstrass helped unite local organizations to form what would become the national sheet metal union, and in 1888 he was elected the International's first General Treasurer. Years later, when the union was reorganized, Kellerstrass drew the coveted Local 1 designation โ cementing Peoria's place in sheet metal history.
That legacy continues today. From hospitals and schools to factories, office buildings and homes, our sheet metal workers bring craftsmanship, precision and pride to every job.
Thank you to every apprentice, journeyperson and retiree who has helped shape our trade and strengthen our union. We're proud to celebrate the people who make Local 1 what it is!
