Our Barn Quilt workshop was truly amazing! 🌺 We brought the spirit of wétu — spring — to life through beautiful, colorful quilt designs filled with creativity, laughter, and community. It was inspiring to gather together, learn from one another, and celebrate art in a way that reflects Dakota culture, connection, and storytelling.
Pidamaya to the Minnesota State Arts Board for supporting this special opportunity, and a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful teacher, Cynthia Buchholz, for sharing her knowledge, patience, and creativity with us. Your guidance helped each design bloom with its own unique beauty.
These workshops are more than art — they strengthen community, honor tradition, and create space for learning, joy, and togetherness. ❤️

MMIR-05/05/2026

Wow — what an incredible turnout. We raise our hands in gratitude to every relative, community member, youth, elder, and ally who came together to support the Youth-Led MMIR March. Your presence, prayers, songs, and voices carried strength throughout the day and reminded us that our people are never alone in this work.

Yesterday was more than a march it was a movement of remembrance, healing, resilience, and hope. We walked for our missing and murdered Indigenous relatives, for the families still searching for answers, and for the generations yet to come. Seeing our youth lead with courage, pride, and purpose was powerful and deeply inspiring.

Pidamaya to our speakers who shared their words, stories, and hearts with the community. Your voices brought truth, awareness, and healing to this gathering. We also want to recognize and thank all of the staff, organizers, volunteers, drum groups, and supporters who helped make this event possible. Your hard work, dedication, and commitment to the people helped guide this gathering in a good way.

At Dakota Wicohan, we believe in coming together as relatives, lifting up our youth leaders, and protecting the sacredness of our communities. The strength of our Oyate (people) continues through gatherings like this where we stand united, honor our ancestors, and fight for justice for our relatives.

Thank you all for showing up, standing together, and walking beside us. The work continues, but today showed the power of community, culture, and collective healing.

We had an amazing time at DW this week!

A big thank you to J & J Paint Parties for coming out and leading a fun, hands-on painting class with our kids. The room was full of creativity, laughter, and some seriously impressive artwork!

Experiences like this give our youth a chance to express themselves, try something new, and build confidence in a supportive space. We’re grateful for community partners like J & J Paint Parties who help make moments like this possible.

Check out some of the masterpieces our young artists created!
