Special Olympics North Carolina wishes to express our heartfelt concerns for everyone in western North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Helene. Our staff have been in touch with many of the Special Olympics athletes and their families, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and other supporters in the many communities impacted including those in the counties of Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey, and everyone living in the Qualla Boundary. We will continue efforts to reach those we have not yet heard from to ascertain their needs in the wake of this catastrophic event. We are inspired by the courage and determination of all those involved in recovery, and send our best wishes to law enforcement, first responders and crews who are working diligently to save lives and restore basic services. Time and again, North Carolinians have demonstrated resilience in crisis, and we know that, together, we will get through this.
