NEXT TUESDAY!

Join us for lunch and meet Janet Mason, executive director of Horse & Buddy. She has been in this position for over 20 years. Her background is in the corporate world; she worked for IBM for almost 30 years before leaving in 2016 to run Horse and Buddy full time. She has an BS in Computer Science and an MBA from Duke. Janet lives on her farm in Siler City with three horses (two of whom are retirees from Horse and Buddy), two miniature donkeys, four dogs, two cats, and her impulsive purchase: Matilda the Pig. In her spare time, she likes to work on her farm and drive her tractor.

Not a member of a Rotary Club? Comment below and one of our members will reach out with an invite to lunch.

NEW MEMBER ALERT!

Give a big Rotary welcome to Jason Hovermale! From his very first meeting, he saw the power of community leadership in action and is eager to dive into local volunteer opportunities backed by Rotary’s global impact.

With an MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler and past leadership roles as CFO of Medlit Solutions (now RLG Healthcare) and Corporate Controller at Kymera International, he brings deep financial and corporate expertise to the club.

Outside of work, you’ll find him giving time at Morrisville Elementary, maintaining his tree farm and cabin, or out on the lake with his family, surfboard or wakeboard in tow.

Welcome aboard, Jason - we’re lucky to have you in the mix!

NEXT TUESDAY!

Join us for lunch at Prestonwood as we hear from our own Rotary member, Shannon Steele! Shannon is the Branch Executive of Membership at the Northwest Cary YMCA, where she’s been part of the Y family for 27 years. Though she’ll tell you it’s been a reluctant career, her journey began at 16 as a youth counselor, eventually leading teams across camps, afterschool programs, and now adult membership.

Along the way, Shannon has personally raised over $80,000 for the YMCA’s annual campaign, helped dream up and launch a homeschool program that now serves more than 300 kids, and is known for her determination to help her team find ways to say “yes” to the community.

Outside of the Y, Shannon is married to her best friend (whom she also met at the Y) and together they’ve raised three amazing kids while navigating law school and life’s curve balls.

Leave a comment if you want to join us for lunch and hear from Shannon.

AUGUST MEETING RECAP

We had two amazing meetings last month at . The first meeting, we got to learn all about with Michelle Shaefer-Old. For the second half of the month, we had a special visit from DG Lisa Higginbotham and heard her vision for the year. And OF COURSE we've enjoyed the perks of Prestonwood dining.

We've done service projects, initiated new members, and spent time together in fellowship. There is so much more to come!

If you're interested in joining us for a lunch meeting and learning what Rotary is all about, leave a comment below. We'd be happy to have you!

Next Week: District Governor Lisa Higginbotham is joining us for lunch!

Lisa is the founder of FiveStar Awards & Engraving in Cary, NC, a
nationally recognized provider of corporate awards and a licensed vendor for Rotary International. With a background in journalism and commercial printing, Lisa launched FiveStar in 1999, combining her creative skills with a passion for meaningful recognition. Lisa’s signature tagline when talking about her “real” job is “We get to play with cool toys and make pretty things!”

She’s a Certified Recognition Master (CRM)—a designation held by fewer than 100
people worldwide—and served as President of the Awards and Personalization

Lisa is also a dedicated Rotarian, where she has held numerous leadership roles, and currently a member of the Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club. Her message, “Embrace Your Passion,” reflects her deep belief in service that aligns with purpose—and a life fueled by heart, hustle, and Duke basketball.
