Our team has been hard at work behind the scenes, checking in with St. Nick and his elves, preparing our very own North Pole workshop, and getting ready for another heartwarming season of Holiday Hope Fund! 🎁✨

Around here, the holidays mean so much more than presents under the tree. They’re about bringing joy to our neighbors, creating special memories for families, and reminding our community that no one has to face the holidays alone. ❤️

As we prepare for the 2026 Holiday Hope Fund season, we want to take a moment to look back at the incredible impact YOU helped us make in 2025!

Behind every number is a neighbor, a family, a child, or a senior who experienced a little more hope, happiness, and holiday magic because of YOU. To every volunteer, donor, sponsor, and community partner who helped make last year possible — THANK YOU! Your generosity is what makes this work so special. We couldn’t do it without you! 🥹❤️

📋 PLEASE BRING ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:

✅ Proof of Hamblen County residency dated within the past 30 days (utility bill, rent receipt, or mortgage statement).

✅ Proof of income for everyone in the household (pay stubs, benefit letters, or SNAP letters).

✅ Social Security cards for everyone in the household.

Please come prepared with the required documentation to help make the sign-up process as smooth as possible.

💜 FRIDAY HOPE | SMALL STEPS STILL COUNT
Recovery doesn't always begin with a dramatic moment.
Sometimes it begins with something that may seem small to everyone else.
💜 Accepting a box of Narcan.
🧪 Choosing to test a substance before using it.
💉 Using sterile supplies instead of sharing.
📞 Making a phone call to ask about treatment.
🤝 Talking with a peer support specialist.
🏥 Going to a medical appointment.
💊 Taking recovery medication as prescribed.
❤️ Reconnecting with someone you trust.
🌱 Or simply deciding, “Today, I'm going to do something differently.”
Risk reduction and recovery don't have to compete with each other. Risk-reduction strategies can help protect a person's health and life while they determine what comes next.
And the next step belongs to them.
At All Things Coalition, we aren't here to measure someone's progress against someone else's journey.
We're here to provide connection, support, information, resources, and hope.
Because sometimes the step that looks small from the outside took everything that person had to take.
So today, let's celebrate progress without demanding perfection.

💜 THURSDAY THOUGHT | WORDS CAN OPEN DOORS
The way we talk about substance use matters.
Words such as “addict,” “junkie,” “clean,” or “dirty” can reduce a person to a diagnosis or behavior and reinforce stigma.
Instead, try:
💜 “Person with a substance use disorder” instead of “addict.”
🌱 “Person in recovery” instead of “former addict.”
🧪 “Positive/negative drug test” instead of “dirty/clean test.”
🤝 “Person who uses drugs” instead of labels that define someone by their substance use.
This isn't simply about being politically correct.
Research has shown that the language used to describe people with substance use disorders can influence how others perceive them. Stigma can also become a barrier to seeking healthcare and treatment.
At All Things Coalition, we believe a person is always more than their substance use.
Someone can be struggling and still be a parent.
A daughter or son.
A friend.
A coworker.
A neighbor.
A person with goals, talents, fears, and a future.
Changing our language won't solve substance use disorder—but it can help create an environment where people are treated with dignity rather than judgment.

💜 WELLNESS WEDNESDAY | SUPPORT DOESN’T MEAN DOING EVERYTHING
Loving someone who is living with a substance use disorder can be complicated.
You can love someone deeply, want recovery for them, and still recognize that you cannot make recovery happen for another person.
Support can look like:
💜 Listening without shaming. You don't have to agree with every decision to treat someone with dignity.
🗣️ Using respectful language. Focus on the person rather than defining them by their substance use.
🤝 Offering options instead of ultimatums when possible. Ask, “How can I support you?” or “Would you like help finding resources?”
🛡️ Being prepared for an emergency. Learn the signs of an overdose, keep naloxone available, and know how to respond.
🌱 Setting healthy boundaries. Supporting someone does not require ignoring your own physical, emotional, or financial well-being.
❤️ Taking care of yourself, too. Family members and loved ones may also benefit from peer support, counseling, support groups, or other community resources.
Recovery belongs to the individual—but families deserve support, too.
At All Things Coalition, we want to create space for both.
For the person living with substance use disorder.
For the person working toward recovery.
And for the family members and loved ones walking beside them.
💜 You can love someone without carrying everything for them.

If your teen likes to create art, here is the perfect activity for them! The 2026 Prevention Poster Contest brought to you by Hamblen County Substance Abuse Coalition. This is for middle and high school students. We are challenging 6-12 graders create a bold, visual poster that delivers an anti-alcohol or anti-marijuana message. The winning posters could end up hanging in the hallways of their school to educate their peers. COOL PRIZES ARE UP FOR GRABS! We are just ONE WEEK away from !

Today we are encouraging you, or a student you know, to join the Hunger Action Heroes Unite National Challenge by taking action in your community! This challenge invites students in grades 4-9 to take action against hunger and food waste by volunteering, organizing a food drive, composting, reducing food waste, or starting a share table in their school cafeteria.

With support from a parent or guardian, students can submit their work for a chance to earn a trip to Comic-Con 2027 for them and a guardian, a $750 college scholarship, a $3,000 impact grant for their school, and $1,000 donation to a hunger-relief or food rescue organization of their choice.
