The first Saturday in June is a day to get out on a trail for National Trails Day, an initiative of the American Hiking Society that has been going strong for over thirty years.

National Trails Day is a day to enjoy, advocate for, and give back to the trails that connect us to nature, to each other, and to the places where we live, work, play, and go to school. Events have included hikes or bike and horseback rides, dedications of new trails, and volunteer cleanups or maintenance projects.

To find a trail/hiking event near you, check out NJDEP State Parks, Forests, and Historic Sites website at:

The Green Acres artificial turf bill is up for a vote in the Senate Environment Committee on Monday! 🌱

➡️ Take 2 minutes and use this link to send the Senators on the Committee a message urging them to SUPPORT THE BILL and VOTE YES.

This bill prohibits the use of Green Acres funds for the purchase, installation, or replacement of artificial turf fields, and is essential for protecting NJ’s environment and public health.
Green Acres funds should be used for conservation and safe recreation, not to subsidize plastic pollution!

Burlington County is distributing free $40 farmers market vouchers to eligible senior citizens for the purchase of nutritious, fresh produce.

The Burlington County Department of Human Services Office on Aging is accepting applications from seniors for this year’s Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Qualifying applicants will immediately receive a QR code voucher redeemable for fresh produce and herbs sold at any of 20 participating Burlington County farms and farmers markets.

Last year, 960 Burlington County seniors received vouchers.

“We’ve heard from many senior citizens on fixed incomes who are struggling because of rising food prices and other expenses that make it difficult for them to obtain quality, nutritious foods,” said Burlington County Commissioner Randy Brolo, liaison to the Department of Human Services. “The Senior Farmers Market Vouchers program provides eligible seniors with a path to obtaining fresh, nutritious produce locally sourced from Burlington County farms. It’s a great program that helps seniors in need as well as the local farms.”

To be eligible, seniors must be 60 or older, reside in Burlington County and have an annual income less than $29,526 for a single and $40,034 for a married couple.

Applications for the program are available from the Burlington County Office on Aging. To request an application, call 609-265-5069 or email [email protected]

Vouchers are distributed using a QR code accessible from smart phones and other electronic devices. The QR code can be scanned by a participating vendor from an electronic device. The QR code can also be printed out and brought to a participating vendor to scan and redeem.

Twenty Burlington County farms and farmers markets are now participating in the program and are accepting vouchers as payment.
