Beginning Monday, June 1st, your scheduled garbage and recycling days may change.
To better accommodate holidays schedules and weather-affected routes, the Morristown Public Works Department is shifting their usual 5-day work week collection schedules to a 4-day work week.
Switching to a 4-day schedule will provide a number of benefits to both citizens and city staff. Crews can better accommodate holiday schedules, making sure waste is promptly collected following days off. There is less need for overtime and extra personnel to assist with makeup collection following holidays and weather-related events. Readjusted routes are more efficient and will save time, mileage, and fuel costs, ultimately saving taxpayers’ dollars.
Each household that receives City waste collection will be assigned one of 4 colors to designate their route. On typical weeks, collection will take place on the designated day. However, in the event of a holiday or snow event, when waste isn’t collected, Public Works crews will shift the days of collection, utilizing that extra 5th day of the work week.
If your regularly scheduled waste collection day is affected by this change, you will be notified by mail and by the placement of a sticker on your garbage cart, notifying you of your new collection day. Letters to affected households will go out mid-May and stickers will be placed on garbage cans of affected households starting May 18th.
