So apparently we need to address the outdoor warning system and how they are used.
1. The system is meant to notify anyone OUTDOORS that they need to move to a safe place because it is not safe to be outdoors.

2. This system is to be used for any and all OUTDOOR hazards that could affect our community.

3. There is never an all clear given.

What this system is not meant for.

1. To alert anyone indoors

2. Any one specific hazard

3. Always have multiple ways to receive alerts.

Lastly to address this evening specifically, we sent our trained weather spotter out this evening, while out spotting there were multiple wall clouds spotted with confirmed rotation that was reported back to the firehouse and that information is then passed on to the National Weather Service. The choice tonight to set the outdoor siren off was due to the rotation spotted outside of town. We at the fire department would rather be safe than sorry even though the funnel clouds never made it to the ground. We do understand that there were no warnings issued for a tornado but we were under a severe thunderstorm warning. We would rather set the outdoor sirens off and nothing happen than not set them off and something happens. Also what our trained spotters are seeing in real time is more accurate than a delay of information from the National Weather Service. If you have any questions as to why we do what we do please feel free to reach out to us and we would be glad to explain everything to you. Thanks and stay safe.
