Very unfortunate. This decision can only serve to make it harder for students to vote.

The city of Morris will have three election polling sites for the 2018 primary and general election. None will be at the University of Minnesota Morris which concerns a group of students who spoke at the March 27 Morris City Council meeting."The way I see it, is almost every point that (city ma...

Hey friends of Morris MPIRG! There is a local issue that we think would be of interest to everyone here, if people are not already aware of it. Recently, the City Council of Morris voted to reduce the number of election day polling locations from the historic six, down to just three. This action will only serve to make it harder for every person in the Morris community eligible to vote to exercise that right. This is especially relevant to students because in the Council's discussion of this issue, the on campus polling location was the first proposed cutback.

If you want any more detail about the discussion that took place at the council meeting where this was decided, here are the minutes: http://ci.morris.mn.us/council-minutes/2017/2017-11-28.php

A group of folks, both students and non-students, have elected to write a letter to the city council that can serve as both a response and a list of actions that we want taken. We have three demands in the letter. We are demanding that the City Council reverse their decision to reduce the number of election day polling locations and return it to the standard six, that it be put down in city code that there must always be a polling location on the university campus for easy student access, and also that there must be a publicized public hearing before any future change be made to the number of polling locations. We plan to deliver this letter as a group to the City Council today at their scheduled meeting.

If you would like to read the full letter, here is a link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hlKsTHu5hle8iKVfwbCfL4F_f3H9H7Y8g0N0XE6hGgg/edit?usp=sharing

FOR ACTION: We are passing around a google form for people to sign onto this letter and stand with us. We are also asking for any organizations that people are a part of to sign on collectively as well, and asking for folks to help deliver the letter. Please fill out this google form and add your support! We would love to have it: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeJKHzlVifiqfBDtBPF8xC6YY107Oc0IXbJpVaWbcUjVxFmLg/viewform

PLEASE DO THIS BY 4:00pm TODAY!

Thank you!
