The countdown to On the Trail of Art is underway, and one of our favorite traditions has begun—collecting student artwork from schools throughout the region!

Last week, BVA board members Maggie and Tom visited Laurens Central School to pick up student artwork that will be featured as part of this year's exhibition. We are continually inspired by the creativity, imagination, and talent of our local young artists, and we can't wait to share their work with the community.

On the Trail of Art returns June 13-14, transforming General Jacob Morris State Forest into an outdoor gallery filled with art, music, nature, and discovery. Be sure to mark your calendars and join us for this unique celebration of creativity in the Butternut Valley. Last year’s On the Trail of Art at Basswood Pond brought the woods to life with creativity around every bend. From vibrant paintings tucked among the trees to striking sculptures and immersive installations, each piece invited visitors to slow down, explore, and experience art in a whole new way.

One of the most exciting parts of the trail is discovering how artists interact with the natural landscape — blending texture, color, sound, and imagination into the paths and forest itself.

We can’t wait to see what this year’s artists are creating for the trail! Reserve your free ticket here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bva-on-the-trail-of-art-tickets-1988414075025

We’re excited to welcome a new musical act to this year’s On the Trail of Art — Reyna & The Rustics! Join us Saturday from 1–3 pm for a performance of heartfelt songs, timeless rural sounds, and beautifully crafted storytelling music.

Led by singer/songwriter Reyna Stagnaro, the group brings together warm vocals, mandolin, tenor guitar, and songs that feel both deeply personal and wonderfully familiar. Inspired by hill and heartland, Reyna’s music has a graceful simplicity and lyrical honesty that draws listeners in from the very first note.

Based in upstate New York, Reyna performs both solo and with her trio, leads songwriting workshops and children’s music programs, and has been featured on Common Threads (WAER) and Bluegrass Ramble (WCNY). Her original albums Coalyard Of Dreams and Painted Hills can be found on Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, and Amazon.

We’re lucky to have Reyna & The Rustics as part of this year’s trail — don’t miss this beautiful addition to the weekend lineup!

The Glass Ball Treasure Hunt is back as part of On the Trail of Art—and it’s becoming one of the most anticipated parts of the trail!

Beautifully handcrafted glass ornaments by will be hidden throughout the exhibition for visitors to discover. If you find one, it’s yours to keep—finders keepers!

On the Trail of Art is a free, outdoor arts festival presented by Butternut Valley Alliance and held this year in General Jacob Morris State Forest. The event transforms the forest into an immersive art experience, featuring original works by professional artists living in the Butternut Valley alongside artwork by local students.

Exhibition Hours
Saturday June 13th: 11 am–6 pm
Sunday June 14th: 10 am–4 pm

We’re lucky to have Crystal Postighone right here in the Butternut Valley. A graduate of Hartwick College with a Bachelor of Arts in glass and sculpture, Crystal began her glass journey at the Corning Museum of Glass in 2005 and has since worked in multiple studios before building her own glassblowing studio. In addition to creating the glass ornaments featured in this year’s treasure hunt, Crystal also has work installed along the trail for visitors to experience as part of On the Trail of Art.

Bring your walking shoes, stay curious, and keep your eyes on the trail—this is one treasure hunt you won’t want to miss! Link to reserve your free ticket for On the Trail of Art: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bva-on-the-trail-of-art-tickets-1988414075025?aff=oddtdtcreator

There’s already so much art waiting in the woods.!🌿✨

Last week, members of Butternut Valley Alliance headed into General Jacob Morris State Forest to begin selecting gallery spaces for this year’s On the Trail of Art — our annual summer event where art installations are tucked along a forest trail for a truly one-of-a-kind outdoor experience.

Before the art goes up, we’re gathering for a trail clean up this Sunday May 17th, at 10 AM, and we’re looking for volunteers to help prepare the space for the event! If you’d like to lend a hand, spend some time in the forest, and be part of bringing this special event to life, reach out to us - [email protected]

We are still accepting artists proposals - go to our website to fill out the submissions form by May 15th. On the website you can also reserve your spot to come see On the Trail of Art June 13th & 14th!
