🚦Based on cyanobacteria cell concentrations in samples collected from the lake on September 29, 2026, and other related water quality data, the risk to the public from cyanobacteria / harmful algal blooms was MODERATE.

Cyanobacteria cell concentrations at two of the three sites sampled, and the lake averages were consistent with the State’s Visual Rank Category 2 conditions, i.e., moderate public health risk. Other surrogate measures of cyanobacteria productivity indicate increased growth over the last several weeks.

WHAT THIS MEANS: the public should exercise caution, be aware of changing conditions (e.g., localized bloom formation), and avoid contact with blooms if they are observed.

The Litchfield Conservation Commission has scheduled a public presentation on how landowners can make an enormous contribution to water quality by leaving or restoring a strip of native plants along their segment of shoreline.

Due to the projected storm and expected weather conditions, the Beach to Beach 5K has been rescheduled to Sunday, October 4th.

The safety of our runners, volunteers, and spectators comes first, and we’re hopeful the new date brings better conditions and a much more enjoyable race day for everyone.

All current registrations will automatically transfer to the new date — no action is required.
