Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department

Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department The Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department, Parsippany-Troy Hills Twp District #1. Fire Dept. Our mission is to protect Life and Property.

The Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department, Parsippany - Troy Hills Fire District #1 has been serving the citizens of Parsippany since June 11, 1910. During that time we have seen many changes, from using hand pulled and operated hose carts to the latest fire apparatus with the highest level of technology possible. Some of the services we provide are fire suppression, vehicle and train extrication,

basic hazardous materials mitigation response, and Rapid Intervention Crews (RIC) for our neighboring departments. To keep current on our skills we train 3 days per month with extra days as necessary. To gain our certifications we use the Morris County Public Safety Officers Training Academy, Bergen County Fire Academy, as well as private companies that specialize in firefighter training. Our members have earned a wide variety of certifications including:

Firefighter Levels 1 and 2
Haz-Mat Levels 1 and 2
CPR for the Professional Rescuer
Incident Management (ICS & NIMS)
CBRNE/WMD Training
Strategy and Tactics
High Angle Rescue
Forcible Entry Techniques

The Mount Tabor Vol. currently has 49 active firefighters protecting the citizens of Parsippany. The fire department is run by a Chief, 1 Assistant Chief, 3 Captains, and 3 Lieutenants. These officers and the members operate 5 apparatus from 3 fire stations. Our oldest station is located in the Mount Tabor section of Parsippany and has a history dating back to 1910. Our headquarters station is located in the Sedgefield section of town on Route 53, and our newest station is located in the Powdermill section of town just off of Route 10. The fire department is governed by a 5 member Board of Fire Commissioners. This board is elected by the citizens of Fire District 1 at large for 3 year terms. This election occurs with the annual district budget vote which is open to all registered voters in the district. All personnel elected to the board are citizens of the fire district and membership in the department is not required to serve as a Commissioner.

Last week, four of our members participated in a joint training session with Parsippany Fire Districts 5 and 6, along with Parsippany Rescue & Recovery, focused on Trench Rescue Operations.

Trench rescue incidents are considered high-risk, low-frequency emergencies that can occur in any community. When these situations arise, having highly trained personnel and access to specialized rescue resources can make all the difference. Training opportunities like this help ensure our members are prepared to operate safely and effectively when called upon to assist.

We would like to thank Rescue Products International for providing this valuable training and helping our members continue to expand their skills and knowledge.

Over the last two weeks, the Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department has responded to numerous mutual aid requests throughout Parsippany, including several calls assisting the Lake Hiawatha District 4, the Lake Parsippany Volunteer Fire Company District 3, and Parsippany Troy-Hills Fire District 6.

Whether it’s during the middle of the night, early morning hours, or throughout the workday, our members continue to answer the call whenever help is needed. Mutual aid plays a major role in keeping our communities protected, and we are proud to stand alongside our neighboring departments when the tones go off.

As we head into the busy summer season, we continue to applaud the dedication and commitment of our volunteers who consistently step up to serve our community at all hours of the day and night.

No matter the season, our goal stays the same: making sure our community can count on us every time the tones go off.
