Today at MLA- MTN SOL Summer Camp!☀️

Miss Taylor and Liz discussed camouflage, its role in species survival and genetic evolution. They even invented their own brand new game to help campers better understand the topic.

We call the game "Hide and Prey"- an adaptation to the game hide'n'seek and an already popular game we play called Camouflage. Campers worked together to hide objects (animals) from the prey (instructors) who had to then find the species to, well... eat them. Hence our student named game... "Hide and Prey!"

Happy World Snake Day!

Each of the 23 species of snakes that call West Virginia home play a unique and important role in the ecosystem, and we're blessed with many opportunities to observe and educate people about them.

From our resident building and shed ratsnakes, Fred and Frieda, to the little ringnecks we like to visit when we camp at Chestnut Ridge Park & Campground, to Miss Lauren's rattlesnake and copperhead surveys that help us teach people to be safe around our two spicy native species, we're delighted to share our beautiful mountain habitat with these fascinating critters!

Today at MLA- MTN SOL Summer Camp!☀️

Miss Taylor and Basil taught students about Broadleaf Plantain (Plantago major) and Longleaf Plantain (Plantago lanceolata). Younger campers turned the different usages of the plant into different forms of play such as doctor, chef, restaurant, teacher, and scientist. Older campers got the chance practice their teaching skills on us instructors as well. 🌱👩‍🏫

Congratulations to all of our staff who participated in a Wilderness First Responder class last weekend!⚕️🌳

Our Wilderness First Responder (WFR) was taught through Wilderness Medical Associates. Nine total staff members took the course and we are extremely proud to say everyone passed! Whether we were recertifying or leveling up, this course was challenging and we congratulate everyone's hard work!!💚👨‍🎓
