OT Month Wrap Up
Hi everyone,

I hope you all have had a wonderful OT Month!! With all of the great things that happened this month, I wanted to wrap things up in an email for you all, sorry it's a long one.

AOTA Conference Highlights

I attended AOTA's Inspire annual conference and wanted to share some of the highlights with you all. During the presidential address, Alyson Stover asked us to think about what our "ah ha" moment was that led us to become occupational therapy practitioners, and I wanted to share mine with you all. My initial ah-ha moment occurred during high school. I shadowed my cousin, who works in acute care, not knowing what all she truly did as an OT, and was blown away at the difference she made to each one of the patients she interacted with. It was at that moment that I knew I wanted to enter the field of occupational therapy. So, I ask you, what was your ah-ha moment?

This year, WVOTA members had a huge presence at AOTA’s conference, and I wanted to take a moment to highlight them all.

Member Jackie Hurt was awarded the Roster of Honors

Lifetime Member Mary Hager, Vice-President Kayleigh Nolan, member SueAnn Woods, member Breanna Adkins, member Steven Wheeler, member Amanda Acord-Vira, and member Diana Davis presented poster sessions.

Breanna Adkins, Steven Wheeler, and Amanda Acord-Vira also presented short courses and conversations that matter.

We had many student members, including student representative Taylor Grout, attend the conference.

WVOTA was awarded the Healthcare Reform/Advocacy Award for its work on the Fair Co-Pay bill. I was often told, “Wow, West Virginia is doing some great things,” and my response every time was, “Yes, we are!”

As we close out occupational therapy month, I want to thank each and every one of you for your commitment to your patients, our profession, and the advancement of occupational therapy in our great state!
