United Way of Mon and Preston County had their first annual Mac and Cheese contest today. They had over 300 people show up. These event are a challenge because of the different types of material all the vendors bring. But, we collected 32 pounds of recycling.

Check out Mon County Solid Waste Authority's website for more information on how to recycle (even the tough stuff) in Mon County:

The Rush Run had 545 participants (WOW) for a first year race that is great. Great turn out from the 4-H community. We collected 72.6 pounds of recycling and 1.7 pounds of compost. Not much food waste at this one.

Check out Earth 911 for more recycling tips:

We are going to be at the Rush Run Friday, August 8th at Riverfront Park for the 7:30 start. This 5K is to support local 4-H scholarships.

We will be collecting all the recycling and compost generated from the race. Also, bring your usable shoes (tied together please),clothes, and trophies for recycling and reuse. Look for it near the registration table.

The course will begin at the ampitheatre and continue on to the Decker's Creek Trail towards Marilla Park and then return.

Wanna stop all the junk mail from coming to your house and wasting your time and the earth's resources. This will not turn off all unwanted mail, but it is a good start. Some of us at GEES tried it years ago and the junk mail has really slowed down.

We need to correct something. The weight of material from Ragnar is half of what Green Earth Event Services collected over 20 events in 2013.....since we collected a little over two tons last year. Still very impressive for one event.

Unfortunately, we will not be at the Jim Dunn 5 miler on July 18th because of some issues with the race, but they would like GEES to do the composting and recycling next year. This is a very good race and we recommend it highly to participate.

Runners will be staged at the Wharf Street Parking Garage in the Wharf District near Oliverio's Restaurant. Following Clay Street to Mechanic Street, runners will turn left on Don Knotts Boulevard, cross Decker's Creek, take a left at Garrett Street and right onto the Caperton Rail Trail. The course…

Here are the totals from the 3,000 person Ragnar Relay at Big Bear Lake earlier this month.

#1 plastic - 375 pounds
#2 plastic - 150 pounds
Paper and cardboard - 750 pounds
Aluminum - 562.50 pounds
Steel- 151.88 pounds

We are taking a conservative guess of 450 pounds of compost collected since we did not have a way to weigh the 8'X12' trailer (that was full) before we took it to the composting company. That is probably low, but we would rather guess low than high.

We had 57 pounds of tarps, tents, sleeping bags, pillows, and canopies that were donated to Salvation Army to be reused or recycled.

For a total of 2,496.38 pounds of material saved from the landfill. What we collected at Ragnar is more what Green Earth Event Services collected over 20 events in 2013! WOW!

BIG weekend for us here at GEES. On Saturday we arranged for the recycling and composting for Ragnar Relay Race at Big Bear Lake in Preston County. Over 3,000 people camped and ran for over 24 hours. The totals are coming soon. It's going to be a lot.
ALSO, we let RDVIC 5K borrow our equipment and they got 11.5 pounds of compost and 4.3 pounds of recycling from 150 runners.
