Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia Conserving the region's wild birds through research, education, & rehabilitation The ACCA is a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in Cheat Lake, WV.

We are licensed by the US Fish & Wildlife Service to treat and rehabilitate injured, ill, or orphaned wild birds, from eagles to hummingbirds and everything in between. Every injured bird that comes through our door receives a comprehensive exam by a veterinarian who specializes in treating birds. The birds are then nursed back to health by our caring, well-trained staff and volunteers. If you find an injured wild bird, please contact us! Additionally, the ACCA participates in and sponsors scientific research projects focusing on wild bird conservation throughout Appalachia and beyond. We also work to conserve birds through education and inspiration; please contact us if you would like a program featuring the non-releasable raptors in our care.

Our Owl-O-Ween celebration is only a few days away! We hope you will join us on Sunday, Oct 18, from 2-5pm at our Outdoor Classroom in Cheat Lake. The farm is beautiful this time of year, and right now, the weather looks very pleasant for Sunday. ☀️🍁🦉

Owl-O-Ween AND a Trunk or Treat!! Hope to see you on Sunday, October 18! 🎃🍁👻🦉

Everyone is welcome to join us for a Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 18, from 2-5pm at Ridge Way Farm in Cheat Lake! Come dressed in a costume, or come as you are. Bring a bag for treats!

After visiting with us and getting your treats, check out the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia's Owl-O-Ween celebration, which will take place right across the yard from the Trunk or Treat at the Outdoor Classroom. Guests will have the chance to meet and learn about owls. Everything is free and family friendly, but we ask that you leave your pets at home -- some of the ACCA's birds are scared of dogs. Maverick the black vulture enjoys exploring the hallway outside his enclosure.

Maverick can’t fly well enough to return to the wild. He was admitted for rehabilitation in 2014 with an injured wing, likely the result of being hit by a vehicle In Sabraton, WV.

Maverick is a favorite with our staff and volunteers. We all love this sweet vulture! 🖤

Come meet Georgia the barn owl at our celebration of Owl-O-Ween on Sunday, October 18, from 2-5pm, at our Outdoor Classroom in Cheat Lake. It’s free and family friendly, and everyone is welcome!

You can also meet Georgia and her friends at the Outdoor Classroom every Friday in October between 1-6pm. No appointment is needed to stop by on Friday afternoons (although we do ask that visits on other days be by appointment only.)
