Last week, a few of our SOAR participants took their first ride on the public bus through town.

It might seem like a small thing. But learning to navigate public transportation is a real step toward independence — one more skill that opens up the world a little wider. Getting to work. Getting to appointments. Getting wherever you need to go, without having to ask for a ride.

That's freedom. And it's exactly what SOAR is about — building the everyday skills that make independence possible, one ride at a time.

Everyone did great, and we're so proud of the confidence we saw growing right there on the bus.

🌻 Last week our new participants took a trip out to Hazel Run Flower Farm to pick flowers of their own — and it was pure joy from start to finish.

There's something powerful about slowing down, getting outside, and creating something beautiful with your hands. Moments like these are part of what makes Libera's Morgantown program special: connection, community, and a little bit of magic in the everyday.

Meet Tessa — our Mentor of the Month for July! 🌟

Tessa found Libera at a downtown event during a season of real uncertainty in her own life — and found a room full of people who believe young women deserve the freedom to define success on their own terms. That's what pulled her in, and it's what keeps her coming back. Her favorite part of mentoring? The quiet moments. Being trusted as a confidant. Watching a mentee open up and knowing that trust is sacred.

"I can't do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good that I can do."

Thank you, Tessa, for showing up and showing our young people what it looks like to hold space without judgment. 💚

We were so excited to partner with Expand Energy to bring our Lila Bear Explores STEAM boxes to families and kids at the West Liberty Lions Club Family Support Center! Kids got to learn about Katherine Johnson's life, legacy and love of math and take their own activity box home to explore more about Katherine, math and space.

BIG thank you to Expand Energy for their dedication to bringing engaging and enriching educational experiences like this to families in the Ohio Valley.

What an incredible ✨surprise✨

Yesterday we were visited by Rebecca Hinzman who drove from Charleston to present Libera with a $3,400 donation by the Crane Charitable Funds!

Rebecca learned about our mission online and nominated US to receive the funds through her employer.

We are so grateful to her and Crane Charitable Funds for believing in our mission to build brighter futures for youth in WV and for their commitment to supporting nonprofits working to make their communities a better place to live.

If you work with young people every day and you've ever wished you could do more — Libera has a way for you to do exactly that.
Libera trains educators, counselors, and community professionals as volunteer group leaders through our Mentor Training program. You'll learn our evidence-based L.I.B.E.R.A. model, lead weekly peer support groups in schools, shelters, or youth programs, and make a real difference for young people who need to be heard

Not somewhere far away. Here. In the hallways where students are heading back to school right now.
Back to school is exciting for some. For others, it's another season of pressure, loneliness, and feeling unseen in a building full of people.
Libera shows up in those buildings. Every week, trained volunteer mentors sit in circles with young people and say:
Your story matters. You are not alone. You are worth something.

We're not going to stop until every young person in West Virginia feels free.
