WVU Amateur Radio Club

WVU Amateur Radio Club Amateur Radio Club at West Virginia University located in Morgantown, WV. The ARC is being revived and is currently in the midst of renovations.

The WVU Amateur Radio Club (ARC) is the oldest student organization club in the Statler College. We are based in Morgantown, WV and located on the 11th floor of the Engineering Sciences Building. Our ham shack currently houses high frequency antennas and a repeater, W8CUL, that allows two devices to communicate wirelessly such as radios, or even WVU’s PRT system. Our club collaborates with local h

am radio clubs to volunteer in administering exams for licensing, provide communications in organized events, as well as support recovery efforts in emergencies.

The local Ronald McDonald House in Morgantown is dedicated to improving the health & well-being of children receiving medical care. To ease the burden of families at their child’s bedside, dedicated ARC members have been volunteering their time to help provide home cooked meals to families in need.

“The West Virginia University LaunchLab kicked off the 2018 Fall semester with its first Welcome Back Pitch & Showcase. Participating students presented a two-minute pop-up pitch, highlighting a problem and solution that apply to one of West Virginia Forward’s three main areas of focus: business, education or human capital. Will Howard and Adam Roh, students in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, showcased their innovative mobile communications trailer, which provides radio wave access in dead zone areas across the state. They attend events to ensure safety communications when cell service is unavailable. “

Last September, the WVU Amateur Radio Club successfully contacted the International Space Station upon acceptance through the ARISS program. As a result, K-12 students across the state were granted the opportunity to ask questions to Astronaut Paolo Nespoli, an astronaut on orbit at the time. The event was made possible by the dedication of our members and various WVU organizations who provided the attendees with a day full of STEM outreach activities.

We're glad you like Trogdor!

Cory Sickles suggested we check out the West Virginia University Amateur Radio Club, so we did! How many ham radio organizations can boast of having a dragon as one of its officers? This is Trogdor, their so-called "Secretary of Defense." It would appear that the members of the WVUARC know how to have a good time. (Credit photo: WVUARC website https://wvuarc.orgs.wvu.edu/)
