WVU Council for Gender Equity

WVU Council for Gender Equity The WVU Council for Gender Equity (CGE) promotes equality and empowers womxn in all areas of the University and local community.

The Council for Gender Equity (CGE) of the West Virginia University Campus promotes equality of womxn in the academic and local communities. The Council was founded in 1977 and has upheld a presence throughout the evolving response to women's issues. The CWC has continued to sponsor conferences and activities that highlight the concerns and accomplishments of womxn, such as the Mary Catherine Busw

ell Award, the Women of Color Luncheon during Diversity Week, and Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. In 2021, the Council decided to change their name from the Council for Women’s Concerns to the Council for Gender Equity to be more inclusive while still honoring the mission of the Council. It has also promoted institutional development via the Center for Women's and Gender Studies, Social Justice Council, Affirmative Action Office, Sexual Assault Prevention Program, and Child-Care Programs. Research and resource distribution of which the CGE has been involved includes distribution of a "Women's Resource Guide" to incoming first-year womxn and womxn faculty and staff, as well as revision and expansion of study on "Status of WVU Women".
