Don’t know how to bring up deprescribing without offending the doctor?

It can be intimidating.
But remember: You are a critical part of the care team.

👇👇👇

Try one of these 3 respectful but firm questions at the next appointment to start the conversation about deprescribing:

➡️ “I noticed Mom is taking [Medication Name]. Since her health has changed recently, do we still need to be on this specific dose?”

➡️ “We are seeing some new symptoms (dizziness/fatigue). Could this be a side effect of one of her current prescriptions?”

➡️ “If we could only prioritize 3 of these medications, which ones are absolutely essential?”

🏓Save this post for your next doctor's visit!

Check out our January YouTube video with host Karen Summey and her guest, Dr. DeLon Canterbury, a board-certified geriatric pharmacist and President/CEO of GeriatRx, Inc.
They’ll talk about the purpose and process for deprescribing medications — what it means, why it matters, and how it supports safer care as we age.

Is the Sunday night "Pill Organizer Ritual" taking longer than ever? 💊😓

We’ve all been there. Standing at the kitchen counter, splitting pills, counting doses, and wondering... "Does Mom really need ALL of these?"

It’s a silent worry many of us carry. We assume more medicine = better health.

But here is the hard truth: Sometimes, the side effects of too many medications can actually mimic the signs of aging or dementia (brain fog, dizziness, fatigue).

It’s called Polypharmacy, and the solution is something most people are afraid to ask for: Deprescribing.

It’s not about giving up on care. It’s about optimizing it so your parent can feel like themselves again.

🔍We took a deep dive into this critical topic for our January podcast. You can catch the replay at any time here ➡https://youtu.be/pl_Iiz3hMLY?si=tU7IF2TD0aSK1Nsf

We’re talking about: ✅ When to ask the doctor about reducing meds. ✅ Where to find resources to assess "the pill box" ✅ How to advocate without feeling like you’re being "difficult."

👇 Drop a 🧡 in the comments if you manage your parents' medications. You are not alone in this!

This nonprofit and our page exists for adult children navigating new phases of their parents’ aging — whether that includes illness, medical changes, memory concerns, or simply realizing things are shifting.
◦You don’t need to have all the answers.
◦You don’t need to do this perfectly.
◦And you don’t need to do it alone.
Here, we share support, education, and real conversations to help you feel more prepared and less isolated during this season.
If this resonates, we’re glad you’re here. 💜
