Outride Outride is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of youth through cycling.

WE BELIEVE:

That bicycles have the ability to improve the wellbeing of youth. Bicycles also bring opportunity, agency, freedom, and joy to those who have access to the power of two wheels. Outride is committed to breaking down barriers so that all kids have access to bikes and safe places to ride.

📰 MAY | 2026

May brought the good kind of busy — big rides, big smiles, and big impact. 😁💐

We kicked things off with Bike + Roll to School Day, rolled through National Bike Month, and highlighted Mental Health Awareness Month, all while celebrating how movement supports clearer minds, stronger focus, and overall well‑being. 🎉🚲🧠

Bikes don’t just move us — they boost our brains. And this month reminded us just how powerful that can be.

Catch the full recap and what’s ahead in our latest newsletter. 👏

Outride is excited to share our latest peer-reviewed publication, A Scoping Review of Bicycling Interventions’ Impact on Psychological, Social, Emotional, and Cognitive Well-Being. This work is the result of a collaboration with researchers at the University of Oklahoma (Brandie Reisman, Dr. Cian Brown, now at the University of Arkansas) and Loma Linda University (Dr. Seth Wiafe and Dr. Sean Wilson). 🚲🧠

Have you ever thought about what your brain is doing while you’re on the bike? We don’t often consider the incredible work happening behind the scenes, but your brain is constantly adapting, processing, and powering every pedal stroke.  🚲✨🔍

Our latest blog, How Biking Rewires & Rejuvenates Your Brain, breaks down the neuroscience of riding and explores how movement supports long-term brain health. A few standout benefits of biking include:

• Strengthening and preserving key neural pathways 🧬

• Releasing neurotransmitters that boost mood and motivation 😁

• Increased focus and attention, supported by changes in brain activity 📈

• Supporting the brain’s natural cleanup processes 🫶

May gives us two powerful reasons to ride: it’s National Bike Month and Mental Health Awareness Month 🚲💚

At Outride, we believe bikes can do more than move our bodies. Movement, connection, and access to cycling can help reduce stress, build confidence, strengthen focus, and support mental well‑being across the lifespan. Cycling is a powerful tool, and it’s one of many ways people care for their mental well‑being, which can look different for everyone.

This carousel captures moments from , where we brought our Brain on Bikes booth to life through hands‑on demos and conversations about how riding supports brain health and overall well‑being. 🫶✨

Curious what’s happening in your brain when you ride, and how movement fits into caring for mental health more broadly?

🧠🚲 Comment “BRAINS ON BIKES” to explore the science and try a few simple cognitive challenges, and check out trusted mental health resources to support yourself and others.
