🌱 Growing Curiosity, One Seed at a Time

At our Catalyst ExpandEd Learning Roosevelt Elementary site, hands-on learning came to life this week as students explored how plants grow.🌿

Through an engaging lesson, students discovered the parts of a plant and the essential role of sunlight, water, and soil. To bring their learning full circle, each student planted their own sunflower seed, stepping into the role of a young gardener and taking pride in nurturing something of their own.

Moments like these spark curiosity, build responsibility, and create meaningful connections to the world around us. We're excited to watch these sunflowers grow alongside the confidence and excitement of our Roosevelt students. 🪴

Lights, Sirens, and Smiles 🚔

Excitement rolled into Catalyst Kids Arthur Butler when members of the Elk Grove Police Department visited our center with a special surprise: a SWAT vehicle visit coordinated by one of our amazing Parent Action Committee members and EGPD officer dads! Our children were thrilled to explore the vehicle, ask questions, and learn more about law enforcement from someone they already know and trust within our community.

Experiences like these help bring learning to life while strengthening the connections between families, educators, and community partners.

A big thank you to the Elk Grove Police Department and our wonderful parent volunteers for making this such a memorable day for our children!

🎉 We sat down with Sarah Abram from Catalyst Community to talk about the incredible work they’ve been doing across El Dorado and Alpine Counties for the past 50 years!

Catalyst Community is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families through childcare resources, education, and hands-on community support—from helping parents find and afford childcare to providing essentials like diapers, formula, and clothing.

One of their biggest upcoming events is the **Kids Expo Tahoe** on Saturday, May 30 at Lake Tahoe Community College—featuring 50+ interactive booths, performances, emergency vehicle displays, free food, face painting, community resources, and fun for kids of all ages 👶🎨🚒

Plus, they’re continuing to roll out programs like community baby showers and parent cafés focused on real-life parenting support, nutrition, and connection.

A full day of resources, education, and family fun—right here in the Tahoe community! 💙

Raising the Standard in Child Care ⭐

At Catalyst Family, quality is not just a goal. It drives our mission. We believe every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive, and every family deserves confidence in the care and support they receive.

That is why last year, we conducted more than 3,000 internal quality control visits statewide to help ensure program standards, strengthen center safety, and support continuous improvement across our programs. You can learn more about our impact at catalystfamily.org.

Because when quality leads the way, children, families, and communities thrive.

Huff, Puff, Learn, and Grow! 🐷🏠✨

Our Catalyst ExpandEd Learning programs extend the school-day and partner with school districts to complement the school curriculum instead of replicating it. At our Roosevelt Elementary site, students brought The Three Little Pigs to life during Fairytales and Fables Week through hands-on learning, creativity, and teamwork.

Students explored important lessons about hard work, perseverance, and making thoughtful choices while building and testing their own “houses” using different materials. Through collaboration and problem-solving activities, they connected the story’s message to real-life situations in fun and meaningful ways.

We love seeing learning come alive through imagination, discovery, and peer connection! 💙

Building Businesses. Expanding Child Care. Strengthening Communities. 💙

At Catalyst Family, our mission is to strengthen families and communities through accessible, quality child care and support services. One way we bring that mission to life is through Catalyst Community's “Home CEO” program, which empowers local entrepreneurs in El Dorado and Alpine counties to open family child care businesses. By expanding child care availability and creating pathways to small business ownership, the program helps build stronger, more supported communities.

We want to congratulate this year's group of graduates as they begin making a lasting impact for local families and children. 💙

Advocating for Children, Families, and Opportunity

Recently, one of our Catalyst Family board members shared what drew him to the organization and the impact he has witnessed firsthand in the communities we serve. From supporting families through court-based child care programs to providing essential after-school learning environments, he spoke about the importance of accessible, quality care that meets families where they are.

“When you've spent a professional lifetime engaged in child development and early education, you develop your own mission, one that seeks to guarantee the best possible programs for young children and their families. Catalyst speaks to quality care for children not only in the multitude of programs they provide, but also in the support of families.”

We are grateful for leaders and advocates who continue to champion opportunities that strengthen children, families, and communities every day. 💙

At Catalyst Family, we believe strong family engagement helps build thriving communities.

Our Catalyst Kids Raymond Case center recently hosted a Parent Workshop, “Bloom Where You’re Planted,” offering families a meaningful space to reflect, connect, and grow. With guidance from guest speaker Danielle Key of cubicleconnections_llc, families gained practical strategies for navigating daily life with intention.

Through both shared conversation and a hands-on activity creating symbolic “blooms,” families left feeling encouraged, connected, and inspired.

Events like this strengthen relationships, support families in tangible ways, and help create positive outcomes for children and the communities we serve.

Thank you to all the families who joined us. We are proud to grow together.

🎉 Building Stronger Communities at Kids Expo Placerville 🎉

Recently, our Catalyst Community division proudly hosted Kids Expo Placerville, bringing together families, educators, child care providers, and community organizations for a day of connection, learning, and support across El Dorado County.

Led by our dedicated Cameron Park team, this free event featured more than 70 vendors offering families access to child care resources, educational opportunities, and essential community services.

From dance and karate performances to obstacle courses and face painting, this free event created a fun and engaging experience for the approximately 600 children and adults who attended.

Events like Kids Expo support Catalyst Family’s mission to strengthen families and communities by expanding access to quality child care, educational resources, and responsive support services.

Thank you to our sponsors, vendors, and community partners for helping make this event a success.

We look forward to our next Kids Expo in South Lake Tahoe on May 30! 🌟 Visit catalystcomm.org for more information.
