Will they ever catch a break? The ups and downs this family is going through is no joke. Long hospital stays with hopes to return home shattered by an unfortunate event from some part of the unknown illness. And when Joe came home for three weeks after being in the hospital since April, it was only to return to the ICU because of sensitivity to the simplicity of a viruses. Back on breathing tubes and closely being monitored so that he will heal sufficiently to come home for Christmas, or we hope.... If you have not yet, Please consider supporting this family. As humble as she is, Joe’s wife Cheri works multiple jobs tirelessly, to keep paying on the ever increasing 40K+ in medical bills and be the sole provider for her four girls. She holds it together like a superhero, making sure her children do not suffer during these trying times but her health and funds are thin. Gift cards for the girls for future clothing or personal needs are also appreciated anytime. Regardless if you are able to give or not, please send them prayers for little miracles to come their way.
Best to all of the family’s supports this holiday.

A picture says a thousand words..

My amazing mother-in-law (Beth Palladino) sent me this picture.

Loved ones and strangers, near and far, are constantly asking how Joe is - But there’s no easy answer. Sometimes it takes a picture to sum up all the words.

Here he is.. good days and bad. Happy and sad. The continual roller coaster of emotions for him, as well as everyone who loves and cares about him. No two days is alike, or two hours. He is, every day, in a constant battle of fighting what comes next. Focusing on remaining strong to get better and return home to the family. Obviously he has more than 9 lives and is very lucky to have so many prayers and support. I wish we were able to thank each of you individually. Please know, we appreciate you. https://gofund.me/d7f0e279

“The last 8 months has been a roller coaster ride. Scared to know what the next day- hour would bring. We have had very low dips and some amazing miracles. Joe never received a diagnosis, he’s still a medical mystery, but he’s making it -regardless. I haven’t been able to update or post, scared that the floor would drop out from under, but we are almost there. He is in a wheelchair, still not able to use parts of his body, but we see little improvements every day. We have had so many amazing friends & loved ones show up to visit, cards, donations, meals, moving furniture, helping with kids, helping with housework, and supporting our lowest moments.

This week we started a new path on this recovery journey. Joe is home. I have been trained to support Joe’s medical needs, and we will continue to navigate our new normal. It hasn’t been easy. It’s Scary, lonely, and Overwhelming.
It has been difficult asking for help, but to those of you who did, we are forever grateful. Just know that we are humbled by the generosity. We would love help with meals, caregiving, and ideas/activities to keep cognitive abilities strong.
With Thanks,
Cheri Palladino”

Additionally, Cheri is finding her way with Joe being home but is admitting that she is overwhelmed. They still need so much help especially with funds to assist with Joe’s 8-months of medical costs and extra in-home support for Joes when Cheri needs to be a mom and put her girls first. If some of our dear friends cannot donate, we would love to find some individuals that can sit with Joe and talk and maybe play games with him. Additionally, the family of 6 could use help with meals a couple nights a week or even Door Dash gift cards and a person that is handy around the house that can do minor repairs. If you’re interested, please send a message through the gofundme page or to Leslie directly if you have my contact info and list your interest and I will get back to you.

We all thank you for helping our friends Cheri & Joe and the girls.

It has been nearly three and a half months since Joe was admitted to the ICU and I am happy to say that he has been transferred to a rehabilitation center in Marin which is 98 miles away from their home. The upside is that he is receiving exceptional care and he is in a spot that they can get him back to the hospital ASAP if need be. Joe has been given a voice box that allows him to verbally communicate to the staff and most importantly his wife, mother, and four daughters. When I saw him last, he was enthusiastic, alert and had much to say but there are still some days are harder than others. Joe is fully aware of the severity of his condition and can start to advocate for himself (finally), and he is fully capable of making us laugh again. I know many of you have asked if his personality and spirit is still there after all his body has been through and I am happy to say, YES!

In regard to Joe’s current status, his left sided paralysis has left us all confused, but the physicians feel it may have been a spinal stroke. This has yet to be confirmed as he will be going for an MRI soon now that he is able to be off the ventilators and machines for and extended amount of time. The doctors feel that they may be able to discontinue his kidney dialysis soon which is another big win. In hindsight, his kidneys would not have taken such a hit had the hospital not had to use contrast for his cardiac CT’s. Last Sunday the 31st, Cheri went to visit him and was able to wheel him out into the sun. I can’t imagine how it must have felt for him to feel the warmth of the summer on his face. We hope that by Joe’s birthday in mid-October, that he will be near home in another step-down rehabilitation facility and able to celebrate his day in much better health.

Joe knows how much love has been shared with him and his family as he has been able to view the GoFundMe page. He is beyond thankful for the prayers and financial support that has been selflessly given to him and his family.

Unfortunately, Joe’s disability has not kicked in yet as his wife Cheri shared with me recently. Had it not been for the hotel point donations and the funds, her and the girls would be in much tougher spot. But Joe’s recovery journey is not yet over, if you are able to help the family with hotel points or monetary donations, anything is appreciated.

Thank you for your ongoing prayers they have helped immensely.

Message from Cheri Palladino (Joe’s Wife)

First, THANK YOU to every one who has been here for us. We are truly humbled by your generosity, support, thoughts and prayers.

It has been over a month since Joe was transferred to critical care in San Francisco. This nightmare started with heart failure and has been slowly taking down different organs in his body. The amazing doctors and nurses have been working 24/7 to unravel this messy, unexpected event. It has been difficult to answer the “how is he” question, since each day, hour, and moment change drastically. It truly feels like a never ending roller coaster. Right now, we keep praying for little wins. He has already missed many life events, and we are currently praying he will be able to open his eyes to virtually watch three of his girls graduate. As the many doctors and social workers keep reminding us, “he is very sick, but he has age, family, friends and and dedicated medical team are on his side.”

Again, thank you. All of you.

My best friend’s family is having a very personal hardship right now. There are many of us stepping up to help with her kids and home but they need much more. Please take a moment to read this call for help from her friends.

Dear Friends,
If you are reading this, it is because you have been brought here out of care for the Palladino family. Joe Palladino had a major medical event on April 25, 2022. Since then, he has been hospitalized in the ICU and there have been a lot of ups and downs. It is projected that Joe will be in the hospital for a long time as there have been many medical interventions, and there will eventually be a long road when he reaches recovery.

In order to receive the best care, Joe is hospitalized quite a distance from home, resulting in his closest family members needing to stay in a nearby hotel. As you can imagine, this is taking a financial and emotional toll on the family and the bills have already begun to trickle in from his time in critical care. Joe will not be returning to work for an indefinite amount of time, becoming a financial hardship moving forward.

The Palladino family includes his wife and 4 daughters. In addition, Joe has also been caring for his two nieces.

If you are able, the family would also appreciate any support you have to offer. Here are additional ways you can help:
