If you or someone you know is in need of having a handicapped ramp built, please call Christian Social Services by Thursday, April 23, 2026. Call 606-784-5329. We only have a few spots left. In order to be considered, you must live in Rowan County, have limited income, and have an immediate need for a ramp. These ramps will be built May 27-30, 2026.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our friend and employee, Lillian Darlene Keller. She worked at Christian Social Services for 13 years. Darlene was a devoted and loyal employee, and we will miss her very much. She was one of our family. On Tuesday, Feb. 3, her visitation is from 11:00-1:00 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home. Her funeral is at 1:00.

ROWAN COUNTY SALVATION ARMY needs bellringers for the 2025 Holiday Season. Once again, this year we will be ringing at both doors of Walmart and at Kroger. During the week, we will be ringing from 10:00-4:00 and on Saturday from 10:00-6:00. We have openings on these dates: (Nov.) 28, 29 and (Dec.) 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 19, 20, 22, and 23. If you, your family, friends, church, business, etc. would like to help ring the bells this year, it's a great way to support your community; as well as, be a blessing to many people. Funds raised are used in Rowan County. To sign up, give Christian Social Services a call between 11:00-4:00 (Monday-Friday). The telephone number is 606-784-5329.

Even though it appears that SNAP has been partially funded, it is estimated that it could be as long as two weeks before some funds will become available. Most families are in need of help immediately. They really don’t have funding for two weeks of food.

As with all food pantries, we find ourselves having to ask for help from the community to help support us in our attempt to provide services to many of our friends and neighbors who are now experiencing an increased need for food. With this being our busiest time of the year, gearing up for Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, it’s more than most pantries can possibly accommodate. We are doing our best to keep up with the additional needs. Since it is impossible for us to supply everything that each family needs, and we don’t want to waste food, we are going to start letting each family choose what two or three meals they would like for us to supply. A lot of kids are picky eaters, so we hope to provide foods that we know will be used by the families. Listed below are the meals that we are attempting to accumulate the items needed to offer to families. If you feel so led and could supply one or two items to help build these meals, it would be really appreciated. Until SNAP benefits are restored, it really is going to take the entire village to keep everyone fed. If you can help, the food items can be generic or from any store. Christian Social Services, Inc. (Morehead), would like to thank the Sisters of Notre Dame Eastern Kentucky Foundation for their grant support to purchase a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Because of their generosity, we will have enhanced ability to conduct handicapped ramp site visits in difficult terrain, improved food rescue capability during inclement weather, and expand our delivery capabilities for essential services to homebound residents. For generations, kids have looked forward to going to summer camp each year. The Rowan County Salvation Army is trying to make this experience possible for 7-12 year olds in our community. Camp Paradise Valley will be Monday, June 23-Saturday, June 28, 2025. This camp has been running since 1973. It is in Burkesville, KY (Dale Hollow Lake area). It’s about 3 hours from Morehead. Our local Salvation Army will be providing bus transportation to and from the camp. There is no cost; however, there is a list of items that the kids would have to bring with them. If you are interested, please call Christian Social Services to work out a time to come in and go over the information packet. Registration must be completed by May 31, 2025. Christian Social Services has another group coming to build handicapped ramps June 23-26, 2025. We have three possible spots still available. If you are in need of a ramp, please call 606-784-5329 by Tuesday, May 6. To be considered, you must live in Rowan County, unable to afford to build your own ramp, and have an immediate need due to your medical circumstances.
