🍂🏕️ Pack 404’s First Fall Campout: Skills, Confidence & Memories! 🏕️🍂
Our first campout of the new scout year was packed with adventure, laughter, learning, and plenty of Cub Scout spirit! ⚜️
One of the most special parts of the weekend was seeing our Cubs at very different stages of their Scouting journey.
🦁 Our Lions camped for the very first time! What an exciting milestone for these brand-new Scouts as they experienced sleeping at camp, gathering around the campfire, exploring the woods, and discovering that they really can do hard—and fun—things on their own.
Then there were our older Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts, who showed just how far they’ve come. We saw Scouts confidently camp in their own tents, demonstrating the independence, skills, and confidence they have been building throughout their years in Cub Scouts. Watching that growth—from a first-time Lion camper to an experienced older Scout—is one of the most rewarding parts of Scouting. ❤️
🌧️ And, of course, Mother Nature decided to join us! We had campfires, new s’mores recipes, downpours, dry tents, puddle splashing, and plenty of laughs. We learned that you don’t need perfect weather to have an amazing camping adventure!
🌲 Our younger Cubs took a sensory hike through the woods; stopping to notice what we could see, smell, hear, and feel. We worked on memorizing the Outdoor Code and stopped to observe and draw nature, practicing the Leave No Trace principles. Our Scouts understand how to enjoy the outdoors, while taking care of it. After our hike, each Scout shared the picture they drew. It’s never too early to start building confidence through public speaking skills.
🔪 Our Bears, Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts earned their Pack 404 Knife Safety Cards, learning important safety skills before getting the opportunity to carve bars of soap and practice whittling wood.
🪢 Knots, knots, and more knots! Every Scout rotated through five different stations, building practical outdoor skills and learning how to use the knots they practiced.
🇺🇸 Older Scouts got hands on raising and lowering the flag and reviewed proper flag etiquette, preparing them to confidently participate in future flag ceremonies.
🎭 And then came one of our favorite parts—den skits! Each den performed for the pack, giving our Cubs an opportunity to practice public speaking, get comfortable in front of others, and, most importantly, be silly and have fun together! 😂👏
As the weekend came to a close, Mr. James brought everyone together for an encouraging and uplifting Cubmaster Minute, reminding our Cubs why being part of Cub Scouts—and especially being part of Pack 404—is so special. We put God first, others above self and do our best to do everything with integrity.
Scouting is about so much more than completing adventures:
It’s watching a Lion camp for the first time.
It’s watching an older Scout confidently sleep in their own tent.
It’s learning to safely use a pocketknife.
It’s learning to tie a knot, raise a flag, or speak in front of a crowd.
It’s getting muddy, laughing around a campfire, and trying a new s’more recipe.
It’s learning to care for the outdoors and for one another.
And most importantly, it’s growing together.🐾
This weekend, our Cubs grew in confidence, skills, friendships, and independence—while our families made another collection of memories that will last long after the tents came down. ❤️
