My brother and his family live in Watauga County and are out in the community, helping neighbors amidst the utter devastation. We are raising funds to help in their efforts to assist families in their recovery from Hurricane Helene. The following story is of a woman in the small community of Newland, NC.

"She has lost everything. She lives alone and purchased her mobile home recently. After the purchase, she was told the flood insurance would not transfer, so she will not have a financial resource to rebuild. She works 3 jobs just to make it all work!

Yesterday was the first time she had been to her trailer to see the destruction. She was clearly in shock. Imagine the trailer filling with contaminated, muddy water, lifting items to the roof, then receding. That is exactly what it looked like in there. She asked Joey to climb over the furniture to her room to find her coat because she knew it would be cold this winter. He did find it, wet and muddy, and she took it to clean and hold onto.

She is temporarily living at a motel in exchange for cleaning their rooms. There will be water, food and supplies locally distributed, but I cannot imagine having, quite literally, only the clothes on my back."

September 30, 2024 If you’re getting tired of still trying to turn on the lights instead of a headlamp in your dark house—if you’re lucky enough to have a headlamp—take a deep breath. The constant thump of helicopters and wail of sirens, sometimes together, reminds us there are a large numbe...

In a world that constantly demands our attention, it’s easy to forget to take care of our most important asset - our minds. October is Mental Health Awareness Month. Here are a few simple ways to show love to your mental health:

🌟Self-Care Sundays: Dedicate time to self-care every week. Whether it’s a bubble bath, a nature walk, or a good book, make time for yourself.
🌟Reach Out: Don’t be afraid to talk about your feelings with someone you trust. Remember, it’s okay to not be okay. You’re never alone in this journey.
🌟Practice Mindfulness: take a moment each day to be present. Breathe, meditate, or just focus on the beauty around you. It can make a world of difference.
🌟Break the Stigma: Be a supportive friend and advocate for mental health. Share resources and help break the stigma surrounding these important conversations.

Remember, your mental health matters, and taking care of your mind is a sign of strength, not weakness. Let’s spread kindness, understanding, and empathy.
