Kardelen Mercy Teams

Kardelen Mercy Teams To reveal God in Turkey by empowering and serving people with disabilities and their families.

Since 1998, God has called Kardelen Mercy Teams to work in the nation of Turkey – to initiate a positive shift in the cultural attitudes toward persons with disabilities, increase societal help to meet the needs of those with disabilities, and to reveal Christ through the empowerment of people with disabilities and their families. We answer this call by seeking ways to assist in the physical, emot

ional and spiritual care and support of the disabled. By training family members, institutional staff and volunteers, we intend to improve the nutrition, physical therapy and respectful treatment of the disabled. We also seek to strengthen families with disabled children so they are equipped to provide some or all of the essential care for their children. Kardelen also serves as an advocacy group: promoting the belief that all people, regardless of race, religion, gender, gifting or circumstances are made in the image of God. And as such, are precious in the sight of God and worthy of His love. Kardelen Mercy Teams is the Turkey-based outreach of the Friends of Kardelen Foundation, a 501(c)(3) U.S. charity incorporated to support the care of the disabled and their families in Turkey.

Meet Furkan! This sweet little boy has Muscular Dystrophy. When we visited him last, we exercised him and then we massaged him with baby oil. His chest sounded congested, so we used a nebulizer to clear up the mucus -- which allowed him to breath much better. Then we fed him using his feeding tube, and helped burp him. After we took care of Furkan, we spent some time talking to his mom. She told us how joyful and happy she feels when we come over to visit them. She said “thank you,” countless times for the food and clothes we brought them. We asked if we could pray for them, and she immediately said: “Yes! Please pray for us, my sisters!”

A Mercy Team serves our local children’s cancer hospital, where life and death is a part of everyday life. Please keep us, and them, in your prayers!

Recently, we had a heart-to-heart chat with a mother of a patient. She was very hurt when the doctor’s sent her daughter home from the hospital having no more hope for her. The mother is devastated, and she’s still hoping and waiting for a doctor to come and take her child back. God blessed us with the chance to listen and to emotionally support this grieving mother.

We had a phone chat with a patient and his family when we found out that his situation is rapidly deteriorating, and the doctors have given up all hope for him.

A 16-year-old young lady is rapidly gaining weight due to a medicine she is using. On top of this, she is having difficulty walking because of her leg cancer. We were blessed with an opportunity to encourage and pray with her, which she found very relieving.

We had a 30-minute phone chat with a 13-year-old patient. It was a very important chat, as she is anxious about her ability to be a mother when she grows up, as she had an o***y removed because of cancer on the uterus wall.

Thank you for joining us in lifting up these precious children and their families in prayer. We are continually praying for wisdom on how best to emotionally support them, as well as for divine opportunities to share the Gospel.

Hello,

One of our picnics was a great and really joyful time. We are thankful to everyone who is praying and supporting us. It was real time of great blessing for the families that we serve. They thanked us so much saying 'you didn't just help us get out of our 4 walls, at the same time you've helped us to get away from all our problems and difficulties. To watch their joy was a double blessing for us.

KMT brings our families together in ways that allow them to share their experiences and emotions in a safe and nurturing way. We recently brought four families together who have children with similar special needs, at different stages, for a special outing. God is great, and we are so thankful we can do such things for those we serve, as eating out or even paying for public transportation is something they can’t afford to do. As a friend of KMT, you are a big part in providing families that are all desperately alone, an opportunity to be a part of a "new" and supportive family.

From left to right in group photo: Alyena is 8 years old, and she has Cerebral Palsy and epilepsy. Berat is 5 years old, and he has Cerebral Palsy. The baby is a sibling of Meliah. Ekrem is 11 years old and he has Cerebral Palsy. Meliah is 12 years old and he has a developmental disability and epilepsy.

KMT General Manager Rabia writes: I have spent the last few weeks visiting every one of the children and families in our care. Everywhere I’ve gone there is an open door. Families love Kardelen Mercy Teams, because we are showing them the love of God in practical, tangible ways.
